We are a very busy 2 partner training practice with a friendly, experienced team of staff.
We are looking to recruit a Dispensary Assistant at Kineton & Tysoe Surgery for 16 hours a week on a permanent contract. You will also be required to cover other shifts when colleagues are off (Morning shifts are 9am to 1pm and afternoon shifts are 2 pm to 6pm)
No experience is necessary as training will be provided. The applicant will ideally have GSCE (or equivalent) in Maths and English and be computer literate.
The dispensary is a busy environment; accuracy, prioritisation, quality, confidentiality, ability to multi-task and being able to work under pressure are essential at all times. As an assistant you will be handing out medications prescribed within the practice, checking, unpacking and putting away all deliveries of medications including Controlled Drugs. You will be answering dispensary telephone calls, handling messages from patients, you will advise patients when their review appointments are due, carry out thorough stock rotation, checking and recording environmental temperatures and filing completed prescriptions away.
We offer NHS pension scheme, 5 weeks holiday plus Bank Holidays pro-rata, the hourly rate of pay is £9.50.

Job Title: Dispensary Assistant
Main Purpose and Scope of the Job: To assist the Dispensers in the dispensary and work as part of the dispensary team, file away completed prescriptions, order, unpack and check dispensary stock, maintain stock rotation/control, deal with patients in a calm courteous manner, maintain patient confidentiality at all times and adhere to the Dispensary Standard Operating Procedures.
Reports to: Dispensary Manger
Hours: 16 hours plus holiday and sickness cover
DUTIES AND KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
· To file away completed dispensed prescription bags in to the prescription collection
drawers, keeping the drawers tidy and maintaining the alphabetical filing system
· To file away completed collected prescription forms in the prescription filing box under
the correct GP and if Paid or Exempt
· To answer the dispensary hatch
· To locate and hand out repeat prescriptions to patients once the patient/representative
has successfully completed the back of the FP10 form
· To complete Scheduled Repeat Prescription Service tickets for patients who use the s
system and file their repeat prescription request in the SRPS filing box
· To assistant patients with general dispensary queries- referring to a dispenser when
necessary
· To sign for and receive incoming dispensary stock orders
· To unpack and check off dispensary stock orders, initial invoices when completed and file
invoices away
· To make arrangements to return stock if damaged, ordered in error, sent incorrectly etc
· To put away dispensary stock in the correct areas taking into account correct storage
conditions, whilst also maintain stock control/rotation
· To book in and out Controlled drugs from the CD register- to be witnessed and checked
by a qualified dispenser
· To issue online repeat prescription requests under the supervision of a Dispenser
· To issue weekly Monitored Dose System patient prescriptions and scan the necessary
medications to produce a weekly insert sheet under the supervision of a Dispenser
· To inform patient’s when they medication review is due and record on their medical
record
· To inform patient’s their medication is ready to collect when necessary
· To ensure dispensary shelves are adequately stocked
· To assist with keeping the dispensary shelves tidy and to check stock is put in the correct
areas
· To answer the dispensary phone
· To be familiar with Emis Web and Docman- be able to check patients medication and
dispensing records, be able to book appointments, be able to cancel prescription issues
that are no longer needed and be able to view patient letters and consultation notes
· Be able to add a message to a GP when a patient requests medication that is not on their
current repeat list
· Take action to notify patients when a review appointment is needed-make a note in
patients records to show the patient has been notified
· To assist with dispensary photocopying and faxing
· To assist with recording of dispensary room and fridge temperature
· To ensure all dispensary sundries are kept topped up e.g. bags, bottles, labels, boxes etc
and to notify a dispenser when stock needs re-ordering
· To undertake in-house accuracy checking training
· To manage own workload and be able to prioritise tasks
· To work from both Kineton and Tysoe surgeries
· To carry out any other duty which the Practice Manger or Partners may reasonably
request in extenuating circumstances
