Job Summary

The City of Fort Collins is currently seeking an Operator ll, Transit (Dispatcher/Scheduler) to join our Transfort department. This is a full-time salaried position with the City with an anticipated hiring salary range of $48,000 - $54,000 a year! This position is also eligible for the City’s shift differential pay (some shifts qualify for +7.5% to +10% pay rate) and flex time off benefits (24 additional annual hours of paid leave). The Dispatcher/Scheduler will play an integral role as the communication hub for the City’s public transit system by connecting resources to problems and identifying solutions. They will perform work related to scheduling, responding to requests on policy and procedure clarification, and dispatching our Transit Officers and Transit Supervisors to support our Bus Operators. Dispatcher/Schedulers also document operator events, heavily use transit software like cameras, phones, and locations of vehicles to monitor system performance and comply with DOT (Department of Transportation) regulations, sign in operators, assign routes, provide operators with materials for their day and provide excellent internal customer service. The ideal candidate will have three years of related customer service and computer systems experience. We are looking for someone with a passion for customer service to bring their skills in problem-solving, computers, and attention to detail to the City!

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

  • Provides department employees reference for policy and procedure, instructs Operator actions to resolve minor incidents.
  • Dispatches Transit Supervisors, Transit Security Officers, maintenance technicians, fleet mechanics, and other staff to major incidents as needed. Escalates response to emergency services as needed.
  • Dispatches resources via multiple 2-way radio channels, transit software messages, and phone lines for all hours of transit operations.
  • Monitors security cameras at facilities, bus stops, and vehicles to supplement incident response or assist with investigations.
  • Responds to panic alarms received from transit centers and parking structures.
  • Tracks all operational incidents using transit software.
  • Develops and communicates detours as needed.
  • Notifies the public of service interruptions via transit software, website updates, and subscriber alerts
  • Monitors incoming or active weather events, and coordinates with staff to adjust operations.
  • Maintains and references digital and physical operational maps.
  • Receives unplanned or emergency requests for service changes from internal or external sources and coordinates response.
  • Receives and discloses sensitive or confidential information to appropriate staff.
  • Documents employee incidents and commendations for Supervisor review.
  • Checks in Operators to establish that they are fit for duty.
  • Records and tracks Operator time worked, planned leave requests, and unplanned absences.
  • Receives unplanned call-offs for all operations staff; identifies and assigns substitute Operators directly, notifies appropriate Supervisor of other absences.
  • Develops and assigns weekly Operator schedules for approval by Supervisor per DOT legal requirements and department policy.
  • Schedules meetings, training, and other tasks for Operators as requested.
  • Prepares DOT logs and collects Operator signatures per legal requirements and department policy.
  • Prepares and validates data for ridership collection from contracted fixed route services.
  • Admits and assists visitors to the secure Transfort Maintenance Facility. Issues visitor badges as needed.
  • Works with ADA Paratransit applicants to assess ADA eligibility.
  • Maintains oversight of paratransit provider’s schedule and policy adherence.
  • Maintain and distribute printed Operator resources for daily assignments and the Operator handbook for general transit system information.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM
PREFERRED

High School Diploma or GED and or functionally related licenses or certificates
High school diploma or general education degree (GED)

Experience Requirements

  • 3 years of related customer service and computer systems experience.

Certifications/Licenses/Specialized Training

  • Current driver's license. Achieve and maintain an FTA regulated drug and alcohol reasonable suspicion compliance certification. At least six months of full-time operational experience using Trapeze PASS, COM, OPS, Clever CAD or similar transit software strongly desired.
