Job description

Position Purpose Summary:

The Dishwasher has the following responsibilities for: cleaning of dishes, cutlery, pots and pans, and other essential materials within the kitchen. The Kitchen Helper is responsible to assist Food Services Manager and Kitchen Supervisor with daily routine tasks to keep kitchen organized, clean and safe for food preparation.

BASIC FUNCTIONS/RESPONSIBILITIES: (DISHWASHER)

  • Maintains cleanliness of work area - garbage, floors, dishes, cutlery, pots and pans
  • Responsible in putting dishes back to their proper shelves.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the plate rack, cup rack, equipment shelving, dishwasher, sinks and all the speed racks.
  • Cleans all stainless steel after usage and mops floor when necessary.
  • Polish and maintain silverware and other metal kitchen equipment.
  • Performs all duties in a safe and efficient manner and maintains work area in a clean, orderly, and safe

  • The Kitchen Helper is responsible to assist Food Services Manager and Kitchen Supervisor with daily routine tasks to keep kitchen organized, clean and safe for food preparation.
  • Assist with sorting donation and liaise with the Loading Dock department
  • Regularly clean and organize food storage units including coolers and freezers
  • Ensure regular inventory of purchased and donated items is complete
  • Check compost, recycling and garbage bins around kitchen and replace if needed
  • Ensure the safety of clients through proper handling of food according food standards
  • Follow legislative procedures and The Salvation Army standards for clean and dirty dishes
  • Ensure appropriate disposal of food waste in accordance with regulations
  • Maintain a high level of cleanliness at all times within the kitchen and storage areas.
  • Assist with dishwashing duties when needed

Qualifications and Education Requirements:

Education/Certifications:

  • High School diploma
  • WHIMS, First Aid, Food Safe Level I would be considered an asset

Experience:

  • Three months of prior related experience, including institutional kitchen experience or equivalent.

Required Skills/Knowledge:

  • Must be fluent in English, both orally and written
  • Is knowledgeable about food preparation and is familiar with kitchen equipment

Other Requirements:

  • Willingness to adhere to the Mission Statement of Harbour Light and the values of The Salvation Army
  • Has the ability to stand for extended periods of time

HOURS: Dishwasher Sat-Sun 6:30 am-2:30 pm, Kitchen Helper Mon-Tues 7 am-3 pm

Successful candidates, prior to hiring, may be required to provide:

  • Background check consent.
  • A clear vulnerable sector screening.
  • A clean drivers abstract.
  • Completion of our online Armatus Abuse Training and required Health and Safety training.

Job Type: Part-time

Salary: $20.25-$21.00 per hour
