Job Profile Summary
Under the management of the VP, Quality Improvement & Patient Safety, the Director, Risk Management Education & Strategy will oversee the development of educational content for the risk management focused portfolio of Med-IQ education. As part of that responsibility, the Director will work closely with members of Med-IQ senior leadership in Educational Strategy, Accreditation, and Sales, to create effective, contemporary, and clinically relevant education to support learners and further the business goals of the organization. The Director will also strategize new ways to deliver education.
This position will lead and supervise a team for the purpose of generating high quality educational materials and learning experiences that adhere to the highest standard of andragogy. Keeping abreast of developments in Risk Management, Healthcare, and contemporary educational delivery modalities, this position will play an important role furthering innovative risk management education integrated with Med-IQ signature quality clinical offerings to improve patient safety, risk reduction, and the goals and values of the company.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
  • Strategically collaborate with the VP of Quality Improvement & Patient Safety, the Risk Management & Patient Safety (RMPS) Education department, and Coverys Risk Management and Business Analytics leadership to:
    • Determine the educational topics and products best positioned to meet the risk management and patient safety needs of learners.
    • Identify and implement a strategy to attain overall business goals as it relates to the development of educational interventions that address existing areas of risk in various specialties and healthcare settings.
  • Direct educational content development to assure alignment with internal processes, business goals, learner needs and feedback, and overall market opportunities as determined by industry research, studies, and experience.
  • Partner with the VP of Quality Improvement & Patient Safety and Sales leadership to identify strategic opportunities for advancing educational products, programs or delivery systems.
  • Manage the development of new innovative activity offerings which incorporate the latest in adult learning principles.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and measurement of RMPS departmental goals and business priorities.
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with accreditation standards and all other company policies and procedures, record keeping, and reporting.
  • Develop ongoing relationships with strategic collaborators, internal and external partners.
  • Actively participate in the planning process for future development and growth of the business, periodically presenting such plans to senior management.
  • Review faculty evaluations, providing feedback when appropriate, and participates in vetting faculty for future use.
  • Ensure delivery of educational programs and resources adhere to the highest-level risk management and pedagogical standards.
  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising and communicating about performance; coaching and developing, employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.
  • Oversee processes and team members’ performance to support efficient workflows and the development of high-quality educational deliverables for policyholders that meet the needs of the company.
  • Occasional overnight travel may be required of this position (up to 25%).
Education, Requirements & Competencies
  • Master’s degree in Nursing, Public Health, other clinical and/or science-related fields and/or Education required.
  • At least five years’ experience in a senior leadership role in healthcare risk management, including interface with legal, claims, compliance, patient safety, human resources, finance, the C-suite, the Board, and Ethics.
  • Must have 5 years of progressive management/leadership experience leading teams with responsibilities for design, development and implementation of educational strategies, blended learning and evaluation, or organizational systems. Strong emphasis will be placed on leading program and course development using e-learning software.
  • Experience in direct patient care, CPHRM highly desired, CPHQ and/or CPPS highly desirable.
  • Experience in functioning at a senior management level with demonstrated leadership skills such as personnel oversight, team building, budget development and management, and strategic planning.
  • Evidence of active involvement in ASHRM, regional risk management organizations, AHLA, or other similar risk management related professional organization in leadership, publication, or committee work.
  • Must display competence in Adult Learning Principles and the core health care competencies of interdisciplinary teamwork, quality improvement, evidence-based practice, and patient-focused care
  • Expertise in healthcare risk management with basic functional knowledge of enterprise risk management, risk financing, bioethics, and statistics.
  • Experience in presenting professional content at seminars and conferences preferably in risk management or related topics.
  • Demonstrates superior emotional intelligence, verbal and written communication skills, facilitation skills and presentation skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as an individual or as part of a multidisciplinary team structure.
  • Superior problem-solving skills, creativity, and critical thinking.
  • Strong organizational, time-management and analytical skills.
  • Must be able to work effectively in a complex, fast-paced environment and manage multiple deliverables and timelines and demonstrate flexibility to meet deadlines.
  • Proficient in Microsoft programs including SharePoint, PowerPoint, Excel, and Teams and able to learn additional programs effectively.
