In this critical leadership role, you will be responsible for developing and delivering Royal Mail's Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) Strategy, ensuring the effective management of our strategic suppliers and mid-tier partners. Your focus will be on driving supplier performance improvement, carbon reduction targets, innovation, value-add, and proactive risk management in our dynamic and ever-changing business environment.



Key Responsibilities:
As the Supplier Relationship Director, you will have a broad range of responsibilities, including:



Developing and implementing Royal Mail's SRM strategy across all strategic suppliers and mid-tier partners, incorporating executive and operational level review.



Creating and executing the RM scope 3 emissions strategy, setting global annual targets and driving category/supplier level reductions in collaboration with the RM ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) team.



Implementing and embedding a Scope 3 third-party measurement and monitoring tool to ensure accurate reporting, baseline information, and effective monitoring of Scope 3 reduction objectives.



Leading the development of carbon reduction strategies across all key areas of the Supply Chain, ensuring delivery against business targets.



Driving the development of broader category improvement strategies, including savings, working capital optimisation, risk management, and ESG commitments.



Collaborating with the Procurement Governance and Systems team to embed SRM and ESG principles into key procurement processes.



Coaching and upskilling the wider Procurement team and Contract Management community in SRM and decarbonisation initiatives.



Leading executive-level supplier engagement sessions, fostering relationships with internal and external C-suite level personnel, and representing Royal Mail at pan-industry events and panels.



Ensuring twice-annual reporting to the IDS plc board and ESG Committee on our scope 3 performance.



Leading, motivating, supporting, and developing individuals within the SRM team, fostering a culture of performance management and continuous improvement. Collaborating proactively in cross-procurement performance calibration as needed.



Demonstrating exemplary business values and leadership behaviors, acting as a role model for the organisation.



Reports to: Chief Procurement Officer


Key Dimensions:
The Supplier Relationship Director role at Royal Mail holds significant dimensions and impact, including:



Budget or financial targets: Accountable for delivering Royal Mail's commitments to reduce scope 3 emissions by 25% by 2030 and driving innovation and value-add across key category areas.



Scales of impact: Authorised to approve SRM strategies and plans across all strategic suppliers, engaging with executive board members, directors, senior managers, and establishing executive-level relationships with strategic suppliers.



Key Skills, Experience, and Qualifications:
To excel in this role, the ideal candidate should possess the following:



A proven track record of developing and implementing effective strategies and plans and have extensive experience in Supplier Relationship Management within large-scale blue-chip organisations. Successful development of category plans that drive decarbonisation and improvements across the value chain with a demonstrable ability to set challenging yet achievable goals and support and develop others to meet them.



You will have experience of managing multiple projects or project strands simultaneously, delivering results within challenging deadlines and are proficient in program and change management, with a an ability to apply these skills effectively.



With strong problem-solving abilities, including experience in resolving contractual and commercial issues of strategic importance you will have excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to lead cross-functional teams and confidently engage with stakeholders at all levels, including board members, directors, and senior managers, both internally and externally.



Experience and Qualifications:
A proven track record of delivering value through effective Supplier Relationship Management leadership with demonstrable experience in leading, supporting, managing, and developing a team.



Representing the business in key cross-industry forums and panels.



Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply (MCIPS) qualification (desirable not essential)



Degree-level education with relevant post-graduate experience and/or qualifications.
