Chemonics International is seeking a Mergers and Acquisitions Director. The M&A Director develops and executes Chemonics’ strategic investment goals, including mergers, acquisitions, divestitures, and other strategic investment related initiatives that have a transformative impact on the business. The M&A Director will work closely with and support transaction leads throughout the deal process. The M&A Director will apply accounting and financial concepts to research potential acquisition targets, perform rigorous financial valuation analyses, and drive due diligence activities across large teams. Targets will span a broad range of industries, including U.S. Federal Government contracting, international development and humanitarian aid, technology, media and communications, training and education, and venture capital and private equity. As part of Chemonics’ Executive Office, the M&A Director will work closely with business leads at the enterprise, business line, and business unit levels to leverage insights from the market and industry to create and execute inorganic strategies that support Chemonics’ mission and growth and are in line with the Corporate Strategy. And, as an integral part of deal teams, the M&A Director will also work closely with leadership in Finance and the General Counsel’s office and interact daily with a wide range of enterprise and functional groups and external advisors and counterparties, including investment bankers, legal counsel, lenders, industry experts, and others. This position will have opportunities for direct interaction with senior executives and the Board of Directors that goes beyond visibility typically at this level of seniority. Responsibilities:
M&A Strategy and Management
- Coordinate and execute the full cycle of M&A activities, including opportunity targeting and evaluation, primary/confirmatory due diligence, deal execution, and integration
- Staff and manage deal teams, including onboarding and oversight of external advisors and coordination with internal stakeholders (legal, finance, accounting)
- Business case development and strategic analyses in support of acquisitions, divestitures, and strategic alliances
- Financial modeling, analysis and budgeting
- Strategy assessment and associated research for specific inorganic strategies
- Presentation development for C-suite executive & board-level communication
- Support development and implementation of the inorganic strategic investment strategy, operational playbook, and guidelines in close coordination with senior leadership
- Project work planning and coordination with internal and external constituencies
- Active monitoring and reporting of industry news and trends
- Supporting the development of junior team members
- Oversee portfolio management of investments, including monitoring performance and making recommendations for senior leadership and the Board
- Performs other duties as required
Business development
- In coordination with business-development teams, identifies, qualifies, and manages capture activities for opportunities, particularly with new clients or in new sectors
- Develops and supports relationships with key partners, existing and potential clients, and other stakeholders
- Researches and develops long-term partnerships with other firms, particularly in new sectors and with new clients
- Contributes to new business efforts including, but not limited to, capturing, leading, coordinating, writing, or budgeting proposals
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree required and MBA or other advanced degree in business, accounting, finance, economics, or liberal arts preferred
- Minimum 4 years’ experience required; a blend of professional work and academic experience will be considered
- Minimum 4 years’ experience in corporate development, investment banking, private equity/venture capital, or management consulting preferred; experience in international development combined with consulting, corporate strategy, strategic consulting, economics, finance, or business planning also acceptable
- Experience with M&A deal execution and integration preferred
- Experience in US government contracting, international development, sustainability consulting, and/or corporate social responsibility preferred
- Experience living and/or working internationally, preferably in emerging markets or low resource settings
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines
- Strong oral, written communication, and presentation development skills
- Experience presenting to and working directly with senior executives
- Strong financial modeling and analysis skills
- Knowledge of research databases and tools such as Bloomberg, CapitalIQ, FactSet, Pitchbook preferred
- Comfortable working independently and as part of a team
- Strong personal initiative and comfort with ambiguity
- Fluency in English required; fluency in foreign language preferred
- Demonstrated leadership, versatility, and integrity

The Salary Range for this position is expected to be: $119,280 - $178,920.
An employee’s pay position will be based on several factors including, but not limited to, relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, performance, shift, travel requirements, and business or organizational needs.
