Location: Utica, NY Category: Professional Posted On: Thu Sep 14 2023 Job Description: The State University of New York Polytechnic Institute (SUNY Poly) Director of University Marketing & Communications will be responsible for the oversight and direction of the communications and marketing team, and development, refinement, support, and deployment of various communications strategies, campaigns and vehicles to lead the promotion of SUNY Poly as New York's (and the nation's) premier public polytechnic. This includes working with Chief of Staff/Vice President for External Relations, and the President to foster relations with all critical stakeholders, including corporate partners, government and economic development agencies, elected officials, media, SUNY leadership, faculty, staff, and students. The Director will possess exemplary writing and communication skills and be able to tell the SUNY Poly story, in alignment with the college's strategic plan, through a variety of creative methods, including print, digital, social, video, web, and news media. The Director will have the ability to gather the full scope of the institution's history and future trajectory when expressing/sharing information about SUNY Poly. In this manner, the Director will be a collaborative, forward-thinking leader who can communicate effectively with a variety of constituents, using a broad range of traditional and electronic media. The position will serve as the college's spokesperson and work closely with members of SUNY Poly's leadership team to ensure that the institute's marketing, educational and community outreach messages are appropriately targeted and effectively communicated. Provide oversight and leadership for SUNY Poly's local, regional, national, and international media relations activities through orchestrating development, writing, editing, and deployment of press releases, media advisories, and research-focused articles for SUNY Poly's website and related print and online publications, as well as the coordination of items for social media outlets within the marketing department. Works closely with the Content Communications Specialist to develop and implement a media outreach strategy (pitching local and national stories) and grow relationships with key media contacts (online, print, and broadcast journalists); serve as spokesperson for SUNY Poly and be a recognized representative/public face of SUNY Poly's operations in a multitude of venues; and increase recognition of SUNY Poly's research, development, educational, and economic impact in all forms of media that support and maximize the reputation and growth of SUNY Poly. Lead the development of high quality and data-driven brand marketing campaigns and exceptional print, digital, online, and video communications vehicles that support the recruitment and retention of students, faculty and staff. Work with Admissions and Marketing staff to build, plan, and implement overall digital marketing strategies including paid search marketing campaigns (e.g., Google Adwords), and brand and lead generation campaigns. Incumbent will define marketing KPIs, identify new opportunities, and support revenue-generating (e.g., enrollment) and brand development efforts. The Director plays a vital role in the college's undergraduate and graduate programs current and future enrollment marketing success and is also responsible for developing and managing SEO strategy by improving and measuring online content to ensure SUNY Poly and our academic programs rank on Search Engine Marketing (SEM). Oversight of SUNY Poly's internal communications; promotion of educational, public, and community outreach events and activities; as well as strategic creation of President's Office draft communications (internal messages, talking points, and presentations). Provide guidance and ensure alignment of SUNY Poly's brand/style in internal and external items by liaising with Admissions and Publications. Partner with the Chief of Staff/Vice President for External Relations, President, and with other members of Cabinet on strategic marketing and communication initiatives in an effort to expand funding and business opportunities for SUNY Poly across its varied constituencies. Provide leadership, oversight and direction to direct reports to assure goals, programs, activities, and personnel practices are consistent with and contribute to SUNY Poly's mission, vision, goals and strategies. Design and implement operating strategies, plans and procedures to assure smooth functioning of SUNY Poly's communications and marketing personnel. Content Communications Specialist Associate Director of Marketing Associate Director of Digital Media Job Requirements: Minimum Requirements: A minimum of 7 years of experience in public relations, journalism, marketing, television production, online media, or a related field. A Bachelor's degree in marketing, communications, journalism, English, or related field from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Dept. of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting institution. Highly collaborative style with experience managing a staff, minimum of 4 years of supervisory experience, and a track record of leading, developing and implementing strategic and tactical marketing/communications strategies successfully. Demonstrated experience managing and executing across multiple marketing and communication channels and media; highly developed skills and ability to write creative, clear, and concise text for use in print, online, digital, and video. Demonstrated ability to be effective working within large, multi-faceted organizations and entrepreneurial environments. Preferred Qualifications: Higher education marketing/communications experience preferred. Experience working in marketing/communications role(s) that support recruitment, enrollment management, and/or admissions activities. Familiarity/knowledge of the SUNY system. Master's degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Dept. of Education or other internationally recognized accrediting institution.
