Hope Learning Community currently comprises of 3 special schools. Market Field School and College is based on two sites; the school is in Elmstead Market and the College is in Clacton. This is the largest special school in Essex and caters for children with learning difficulties, autism and other needs We have two other specialist settings in Witham, which are in close proximity to each other. Southview School is for children with physical and neurological impairment (PNI). Chatten Free School is for children with severe autism. Both of these schools are the only ones of their kind in Essex
Job Title: Director of Operations
Salary: Scale 11-12 points 38-48 (£44,539 to £56,435) depending on experience
Responsible to: Chief Executive Officer
Hours/Weeks: 37 hours per week, 52 working weeks per year.
Location: Administrative base will be at Lanswood Business Centre, Elmstead Market, Colchester Essex CO7 7FD but regular travel to other trust school locations will be required.
Key Responsibilities
Leading and managing the operations of the trust
- Ensure, through strong business planning, that the trust has the human and material resources it needs to operate effectively and meets its aims.
- Embed trust-wide quality assurance processes to ensure the operations of the trust run compliantly and effectively and fully support pupils’ learning.
- Develop effective relationships with all trust stakeholders to support the trust in meeting its vision and objectives.
- Ensure the trust has the appropriate management systems and structures to carry out its operations effectively.
- Contribute to the trust’s risk assessment processes and take appropriate steps to mitigate risks alongside the CEO and CFO.
- Work alongside CEO to ensure all trust-wide policies are adopted by all schools and applied consistently.
Human Resources
- Take responsibility for ensuring HR policies and practice is consistent across all schools.
- Be responsible for maintaining trust HR policies.
- Ensure all schools in the trust are compliant with HR legislation.
- Lead on the recruitment for central trust staff.
- To manage the trust’s pay and benefit packages and ensure applied consistently across the schools.
Facilities Management
- Oversee the management of the trust’s premises and facilities.
- Ensure arrangements are in place for the maintenance, servicing, testing, and inspection of all facilities and equipment.
- Develop and promote energy efficiency across the trust.
- Maintain asset management plans for all trust sites.
- Support the CEO and Executive Leaders in maintaining site development plans.
- Ensure there are business continuity plans in place for all trust operations.
- To act as project lead of building and facility development projects.
- Support the CEO in making applications for capital funding.
- To maintain all facilities management related policies to include health and safety and lettings policies.
Procurement
- To work alongside the CFO to identify trust-wide savings that can be made with the procurement of supplies and services.
- Oversee and review contracts for supplies and services ensuring they are fit for purpose and value for money.
- Ensure the trust meets its procurement regulations and oversee tendering processes where required.
- To benchmark the services at each of the schools and bring contracts in line with each other.
ICT
- Develop a trust-wide vision and development plan for the use of ICT.
- Ensure that ICT provision across all school sites is fit for purpose.
- To ensure compliance with IT policies.
- Manage the trust’s ICT assets.
Data Protection
- To act as the key point of contact for any data protection issues.
- To ensure data protection policies are maintained and applied consistently across the trust.
- To ensure all staff, governors, and trustees receive annual data protection training
General
- To participate in the performance and development review process, taking personal responsibility for the identification of learning, development, and training opportunities in discussion with line manager.
- To comply with individual responsibilities, in accordance with the role, for health safety in the workplace.
- Ensure that all duties and services provided are in accordance with the trust’s Equal Opportunities Policy.
- The Board of Trustees is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share in this commitment.
- Traveling to other locations is a requirement of the post.
