Job description

The Director of Online Education is a new role, combining two existing programmes to maximise our impact and opportunities in online learning. The role will also be a member of the Academic Board, reporting into the Managing Director of Academic (Cambridge University Press).

About the role

This role is responsible for the strategy, product proposition, market positioning, pedagogy, learning design, course content delivery and the P&L for online learning (HE/professional).

  • A holistic product strategy across online learning for the HE and professional sectors, building on our areas of strength and capitalising on the synergies within Cambridge University Press
  • A critical part of the role will be the continued collaboration across the University of Cambridge to provide online learning capabilities, including the growth and development of Cambridge Advance Online.
  • Developing our programme of dynamic, profitable courseware based on our adaptive learning platform.
  • Act as a Cambridge University Press brand ambassador, maintaining its high reputation within the academic community.

About you

You will have strong vision for online education including how the HE and professional markets are evolving and the opportunities this creates. Your experience is likely to include developing and delivering profitable programmes of online courses for the HE and/or professional markets.

Our ideal candidate will be highly effective with communication, influencing and decision-making, including the ability to quickly establish rapport and experience of working closely with academics, notably in UK academic institutions. You will understand how a University Press is well positioned to support learners and instructors to deliver exceptional learning outcomes.

Demonstrable proven ability to work inclusively and collaboratively as part of a senior team to define and implement effective communication channels, develop, and empower diverse high performing teams, and support the wellbeing of all staff. You will have strong solutions focus, with a proactive and innovative approach utilising critical thinking, with the expertise and confidence to challenge accepted practices and promote this approach in others
