There has never been a more exciting time to join Age UK. With a new Strategy being established, we are recruiting for a Director of Finance to work directly with our Chief Financial Officer. With responsibility for delivering a robust and agile finance division strategy, you will also support the CFO, senior executive team, and Boards by providing high quality, timely advice and expertise to achieve our strategic objectives.
The successful post holder will lead on providing innovative and practical solutions to our strategic planning processes which ensure stability and growth. To support the development of the charity’s strategic plan and help leverage our operating frameworks to deliver across all areas of the charity and subsidiaries.
This is an exciting hybrid opportunity, offering flexible working between home and a central London co-working hub.

Must haves:
- Accounting Qualification (ACA/ACCA/CIMA/CIPFA)
- Accounting skills covering management accounting, financial accounting and charity accounting including external audit liaison.
- Understanding of contracts; both fundraising (grants, service provision etc.), suppliers and intercompany in a complex group structure.
- A detailed understanding of restricted funds, multi-year funding and charity reserves principles.
- Excellent communication skills and stakeholder engagement and the ability to present to senior management and trustees.
- Strong leader and promoter of collaborative business partnering as a model, overlaid on self-service reporting.
- Proven experience of writing accessible and concise board reports with an appropriate level of detail.
- Strong leadership, team, and people management skills with experience of building, organising, and driving high performing, outcome-focused teams.
- Excellent attention to detail, a high level of numeracy and ability to relay key financial messages to senior people.
- Practical experience of systems administration and rationalisation to be able to understand and contribute to systems architecture design.
- Proven experience of leading agile planning, budgeting, and forecasting processes in a complex, multi-entity organisation; covering commercial trading activity and charity fundraising.
- Proven project/change management skills at a senior leadership level, including the ability to build business and benefit cases, alongside the ability to work collaboratively and cooperatively to improve and sustain change outcomes.
- Experience of overseeing procurement.
- Experience of treasury and investment portfolios.
