To provide and deliver the vision, strategy, and leadership for Cricket East with the aim to be a high performing organisation, supporting and improving cricket participation and performance.
You will be a key member of the executive team, supporting colleagues in delivering all of Cricket East’s strategic objectives.
The post holder will be responsible for establishing a sustainable workforce team to deliver the strategy. Active encouragement of Clubs, communities, groups, and individuals to access the most appropriate cricket offer and grow sustainable opportunities to nurture their enduring involvement with cricket. Promotion and delivery of the ECB National Programmes through use of effective communication and direct delivery, alongside sharing best practice and providing support and training for our cricket networks.
This leadership role will support the board to develop Cricket East’s the future strategy , and build a high performing team to deliver this once finalised. As such, there will be limited opportunities for the job holder to be actively involved in “front line” cricket delivery.
Specific Tasks and Responsibilities
Reporting to the board, via the Chair of Cricket East the successful candidate will:
- Implement and deliver the Board’s strategies and plans and more generally to carry out the Board’s activities, in accordance with their agreed policies and within the agreed budget.
- Prepare policies and plans for agreement by Directors (but recognising that in appropriate cases it may be agreed that a director will take the lead and work in consultation with the DCD).
- Advise the directors on issues that may have a significant impact on the Board’s activities
- Develop and maintain Cricket East’s Risk register
- Provide the Board with appropriate, timely and accurate information to support strategic decision-making and oversight.
- Provide regular reports to the directors regarding Cricket East activities and programme delivery including successes, challenges and issues.
- In conjunction with the Finance Officer, develop monitor and manage the Cricket East budget.
- Provide regular updates to the directors on financial performance against the agreed budget.
- In conjunction with the Board and ECB, be responsible for the development and management of a strategic plan for Cricket East covering areas such as: Participation & Growth and Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire Player Pathways, Including, but not restricted to the Emerging Player Programme (EPP).
- Work alongside the Cricket East Board to ensure Cricket East is meeting county partnership agreement standards for governance skills & experience.
- Ensure Cricket East is meeting standards relating to ECB County Partnership Agreement on topics such as Equity, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI), Safeguarding, and Data Protection.
- Develop a long-term financial sustainability plan, exploring ways that Cricket East can diversify income to self-fund projects moving forward.
- Together with the Chair, refer to the Board any day-to-day issues that arise and cannot be resolved together by the Director or the Chair of Cricket East
- Effectively Lead and, where appropriate, directly line manage all the Cricket East employed staff, and have management oversight of the Cricket East employed and contracted coaches.
- To work in conjunction with the Head of Talent Pathway to ensure that there is continuation of development and growth within the player pathway strategy and EPP strategy for Cricket East.
- Have a good understanding of the school coaching programmes, club cricket and player pathways to enhance all areas of local cricket. Work in conjunction with Chance to Shine & Education Coordinator developing a strong Schools Cricket Strategy (from Primary to University)
- Work in partnership (and where appropriate, signed MOUs) with ECB East Regional Team, ECB Talent Team, Bedfordshire and Huntingdonshire County Cricket Clubs (CCC), Northants Cricket, Sunrisers East Region Women’s Programme, Beds and Hunts Cricket Clubs, County Sports Partnerships, Schools, colleges, leagues and other cricket organisations
Key Skills required
- Experience of working at Board/Senior Management level, either in sport or in a corporate environment.
- Ability to oversee and implement complex programs of delivery, management and recording of key data.
- Strong planning and project management skills.
- Ability to think creatively and be innovative.
- Ability to manage the performance and capability of the team, creating an effective structure to underpin the strategy
- Ability to lead a team and create successful working partnerships.
