Our team oversees portfolio and investment management of the News Media portfolio companies of the Axel Springer Group. These include U.S. news media assets such as Insider (New York), Morning Brew (New York), Insider Intelligence (New York), Politico (Washington and Brussels), and European news media assets such as Upday (Berlin), Grupa Ringier Axel Springer Polska (Warsaw), Bonial (Berlin), Finanzen.net (Karlsruhe), Idealo (Berlin), Ladenzeile (Berlin), Business Insider Deutschland (Berlin) and Axel Springer Spain (Madrid), as well as several other Germany based or international joint ventures.

Our team is a trusted advisor and sparring partner for our assets’ Executive Management and Axel Springer’s top management. We drive transformational change by overseeing and supporting high-impact projects to help reaching the group’s strategic goals. We lead growth projects and strategic initiatives across the group and portfolio. We support our top management in actively expanding our portfolio through new investments and organic growth initiatives both in Europe and the US.

Director News Media Portfolio Management & Investments, will help us pursue our News Media growth strategy, together with our shareholders, with the following tasks:

Portfolio management:

• oversee a portfolio of digital subsidiaries, being the key point of contact for their management teams, monitoring their performance against plan and supporting the execution of their strategic objectives
• support the execution of complex projects in all areas of business and corporate development related to the portfolio and Axel Springer, more generally (growth initiatives, strategic re-organization, M&A, spin-offs, divestments, etc.)
• work at the interface of the Axel Springer Board and the management teams of the Axel Springer assets and many other business functions
• coordinate, draft & conceptualize presentations to serve as a basis for top management decisions
• develop plans to analyze business areas and derive as well as implement action plans to create value
  

Strategic growth:

• identify trends and growth potentials as well as drive innovative business models and bring strategies to life
• coordinate cross-asset collaboration to drive growth across the portfolio and ensure best practice sharing
• support the development of the overall news media strategy beyond the current portfolio
• support the portfolio companies with business development and other internal initiatives to achieve strategic goals

corporate development and strategy specialist at least 5 years of relevant experience, preferably in a top-tier management/strategy consultancy, investment bank or strategic corporate function

• Bachelor’s degree from a leading university in a business-related field, MBA or equivalent graduate degree preferred
• at least 5 years of experience in strategy/corporate development and implementation as well as business development; M&A and asset management are a strong plus
• strong analytical skills
• entrepreneurial mindset and holistic way of thinking with curiosity to go beyond the obvious
• in-depth know-how of and enthusiasm for digital business models and the media industry
• self-driven, independent, and reliable working style
• good communicator and confident social skills to be able to interact at all levels of employees and management and balance appropriately stakeholder interests
• comfortable working with different companies and stakeholders across multiple geographies and are able to blend in with their specific cultures
• fluency in English required; varying level of proficiency in German and other languages preferred
• extensive MS office knowledge
• a solid sense of humor
