A cornerstone of the firm’s strategy in law is the UK market. As the second largest legal market in the world, it is critical to our global aspirations. KPMG Law was first set up in 2014 (the first major multi-disciplinary ABS in the UK) and operates out of five hubs across the UK in London, Leeds, Manchester, Reading and Birmingham.
Over the next three years, it is set to double the size of its UK legal practice as it pushes forwards with plans for its “once-in-a-generation” growth strategy. As part of this strategy, KPMG plans to expand and enhance its existing legal team of 190 lawyers in the UK by hiring an additional 200+ lawyers by the end of 2024. The new hires will include 45 partners and directors. The UK practice has shown tremendous growth to date, +36% in 2021 and a similar level in the current financial year. The investment plans will push the business to £100m turnover by 2026.

The mandate for the insurance partner is to:
- Build a long term and sustainable business, delivering on KPMG’s strategy for insurance clients
- Build the KPMG Law brand through developing relationships with general counsel and chief compliance officers in the sector
- Be a Magnet for Talent at KPMG Law to achieve the long terms vision to be the biggest and most trusted regulatory legal team outside of the Magic Circle

The Payments Strategy
KPMG has a significant opportunity to leverage the disruption in the market plus our unique position to grow a substantial business focussed on payments advice.
KPMG is program managing the most significant change in the payments landscape for a generation with the implementation of the New Payments Architecture with Pay.UK. This coupled with our other strong credentials plus the significant disruption in the payments market puts us in a strong position to significantly build our market share. The disruption in place is driven by the following:
- Payments infrastructure transformation with the implementation of the new payments architecture
- Open Banking is at a turning point in the UK with a 5 fold increase in open banking payment transactions over the past 12 months with increased conversion rates compared to cards, reduced costs and little to no fraud
- Digital Currency is on the agenda of the Bank of England with likely design and implementation over the coming years which will be a fundamental addition to the UK Payments landscape, bringing significant complexity as well as opportunity
The new Director will bring deep payments experience across a number of payment domains, have experience of leading large scale payment transformations as well as have an established network across our clients to help drive the growth of the KPMG Law business.
This role will be targeting our KPMG traditional FS clients as well as all those who are transitioning as a part of the New Payments Architecture program plus payments system providers, schemes and Fintechs.
