Job Summary:

The Director of Engineering and New Product Development will manage the Engineering department by providing leadership and support to the personnel within the department which enables them to maximize their effectiveness in developing and maintaining products for the corporation. Additionally, provide guidance and leadership to the team leaders for the development projects assigned to the department projects assigned to the department and work closely with leadership.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develop goals for the department and for individuals within the department that reflect the goals of the company.
  • Manage assigned projects and delegate day to day control to team leaders.
  • Provide leadership and coordinate activities for the Engineering department.
  • Develop new products that are innovative and profitable and which meet the Dfss standards for design, manufacturability, quality, and on time delivery.
  • Communicate and coordinate with product management on new product and production modification design issues.
  • Develop and manage a department budget that meets or exceeds stated company goals and objectives.
  • Develop and coordinate procedures that follow the New Product Milestone process.
  • Coordinate development, acceptance, and implementation of product marketing plans that will achieve approved product objectives and annual financial targets.
  • Determine and document specific functional and financial requirements for new products (e.g. marketing requirement documents, pricing analysis, develop and execute customer surveys).
  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Sourcing, Finances, Sales and Product support functions to provide strategic management of the product lifecycle, including new product development, commercialization, product support, and end of life.
  • Supply major original equipment manufacturing engineering needs such as technical support and/or existing products modification.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support corporate goals.

Education / Training:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline such as Marketing, Business Administration, or Engineering (preferred) from an accredited four-year College or university required; 5+ years of management experience. Knowledgeable of Six Sigma and Design for Six Sigma. Masters or MBA preferred.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies, or member of company. Ability to effectively present verbal and written information and findings to management, customers, peers, and suppliers. Ability to write speeches and articles for publications.
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with abstract and concrete variables.
  • Skills or experience with personal computers, including electronic E-mail, personal scheduling, word processing, and electronic spreadsheet skills.

Other Attributes

  • Working knowledge of ERP systems preferred.
  • Must be able to obtain Top Secret Clearance status
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written

  • Ability to manage, organize and plan time and projects
  • Ability to adjust goals and expectations
  • Project and team budget management experience required
  • Demonstrated engineering staff mentorship required
  • Experience in working with third party off-shore design/engineering groups

Must be able to travel internationally
