The Role


As a Corporate Real Estate Director, you will work with domestic and global clients to support them drive performance from their real assets used to support their core operational business and investment activities. As a Director, you will lead a multi-disciplinary delivery team to deliver high value advice and propositions to our clients.


Operating primarily in a Strategy and M&A deals environment, the role will entail working to develop solutions and plans around real estate related issues for the following types of clients:

  • Corporate and public sector occupiers with occupational/operational real estate footprints/holdings and facilities,
  • Investors in businesses with significant real estate assets and operations,
  • Real estate investors with operating platforms for managing their assets.

Our wider Deal Advisory division and the Strategy Deal Execution team within it, are highly collaborative, open and high performing. The Director will be a part of the Strategy Deal Execution leadership team.


Roles & Responsibilities


You will be responsible for leading Corporate Real Estate Strategy and M&A related business development, client delivery and practice development for the Real Estate M&A team.

Your responsibilities will include:


Business development:

  • Work collaboratively with the Strategy Deal Execution partners and directors, as well as the wider Deal Advisory leadership to pursue and land opportunities. Our team truly believes in the success of cross disciplinary collaboration. We land more and bigger engagements by working together across Deal Advisory and across borders.
  • Bring compelling and differentiating CRE M&A solutions to our clients deal challenges, and to demonstrate the breadth and depth of our experience in advising and supporting our clients to successfully pursue and execute on complex deals.
  • Lead scoping, pricing, resourcing of winning proposals and engagements.
  • Build and expand client relationships on large corporates, making us the trusted advisors from one deal to the next.
  • Drive the marketing and creation of opportunities for our real estate work internally within KPMG as well as externally in the marketplace.
  • To identify and pull through other relevant cross firm KPMG services, e.g., SPA, Legal, Tax, HR M&A, Technology. etc.


Expertise and Client delivery:

  • Understanding and advising clients on the structure and functioning of real estate operations, (business models including real estate and Facilities Management functions)
  • Strategic analysis of portfolio assets in the context of cost and operation optimisation and efficiencies
  • Provide real estate expertise, to support the deal life cycle for acquisitions, divestments and JVs (due diligence, cost and revenue synergy evaluation, bid support, separation and integration planning and execution)
  • Undertake strategic and operational assessments and planning to support clients develop new and/or optimise existing operating models for the management of real estate activities
  • Collaborate with KPMG and client in teams to deliver value and excellent execution delivery of complex strategy and deal related engagements.


People and Practice development:

  • Be a key driver and contributor to the strategy and growth plans of our Real Estate M&A business
  • Coaching, stretching and mentoring team members within Real Estate and wider Strategy Deal Execution team
  • Leading, advising and challenging our Real Estate team to support our clients throughout the deal lifecycle.
  • Be a part of the practice leadership team, e.g. guiding team members to manage the practice commercials, pipeline and resourcing processes.
  • Drive digital innovation including the development of compelling Real Estate propositions to provide market growth opportunities.


The Person


Skills, Qualifications & Experience


The ability to articulate a compelling business case and/or case for change to the client is important, as well as building relationships to ensure that KPMG’s reputation with the client is enhanced by your work. A bias for action, the ability to present high level, assumption-based opportunities and demonstrate competence in detailed analysis, is essential.


Experience in preparing and delivering Real Estate programmes in deals including:

  • Strong business development track record
  • Ability to lead complicated project and interdisciplinary teams with working knowledge of transactions, project management, organisation design, capital planning and occupancy planning
  • Strong social skills and a talent for creative problem solving
  • Track record in collaborating across different areas to shape, sell and deliver complex client engagements
  • Ability to build deep senior level client relationships, and be a trusted client advisor
