Position Overview: The Director of People will act as the HR expert and generalist across all of Smosh, including creative, production, talent, and other supporting functions. This person will be responsible for maintaining and upholding all HR policies and company guidelines, recruiting and developing a talented team, furthering company culture, and handling people-related operations. They will work closely with leadership to support all of our employees in their development and ensure that people feel heard and supported. They will also oversee all HR compliance and vendor management, and stay up-to-date on any and all legal employment laws that impact our organization.
Reporting: This role will report directly into the CEO of Smosh.
What you’ll do:
- Employee Lifecycle Management:
- Manage talent acquisition and hiring processes, and provide guidance for hiring managers across the organization
- Onboard new staff, including facilitation of integration with the current team members
- Oversee and potentially facilitate management training & development programs
- Advise on optimal organizational structure as company grows
- Work alongside managers and leaders in termination decisions, termination execution, and employee exits
- Structure and coordinate semi annual performance reviews and 360s
- Guide employees on career pathing and growth
- Draft job descriptions and organizational diagrams
- Manage intern programs
- Employee Culture and Engagement
- Create and evolve employee Culture Guide and related training
- Help develop and facilitate execution of diversity, equity, and inclusion goals and objectives, including the activities of the employee DEI committee.
- Build relationships with team at all levels to help drive corporate culture
- Plan internal employee events
- Philanthropic planning & relationship management
- People Operations
- Manage HR system (system to be determined)
- Develop and update employee handbook policies / procedures and related training
- Ensure, track, and report federal, state, and county compliance
- Conduct annual worker’s compensation audit and report to vendor partner
- Review and advise on employee compensation
- Manage employee benefit vendors, including health benefits, insurance, retirement, employee perks, etc.
- Coordinate alongside payroll provider to monitor activity and address employee payroll needs
Your skills and experience:
- Leadership or managerial experience within an HR function, or a combination of education and other relevant experience
- Knowledge in leadership development, with experience in facilitating training and growth programs for managers/leaders
- Familiarity and practice with implementation or support of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives or programs.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while remaining highly organized and detail-oriented
- Effective and clear written and verbal communication skills
- Thorough understanding of Google Suite of apps (Drive, Docs, Sheets, Slides, GMail, Forms and Calendar), as well as being overall tech savvy or resourceful
- Experience with data entry, data processing, communication tools, payroll and human resources software
- Problem-solving skills and resourceful thinking
- Relational and interpersonal skills, with genuine care of employees’ wellbeing
- Willingness to work outside of typical hours on very occasional HR-related emergencies
- An acute sense of personality and relationship dynamics, with an ability to foresee challenges before they escalate.
- Experience working with public-facing talent (actors, social media influencers, podcast hosts, etc.)
