Building teams with diverse backgrounds that are representative of the customer base which we serve is fundamental to creating innovative products at Dojo. Whoever you are, if you’re passionate about your work, curious, relentless and customer-obsessed, you have a place at Dojo.
We want everyone to be the best they can be throughout the recruitment process; if you require any additional adjustments please let us know.
The role

At Dojo, we're passionate about our brand. Alongside our industry-leading product offering, we believe it's the thing that will accelerate our growth. As we expand into new markets, new audiences and new products, we’re in need of a visionary Brand & Communications Director to lead strategy, people and initiatives that tell Dojo’s story and set us apart from the crowd visually and verbally.
Reporting into the SVP Marketing, you’ll be a member of the marketing leadership team and work collaboratively with leaders across the business to evolve, amplify and protect Dojo’s brand. This role needs a brand evangelist and seasoned communications professional to lead and unite a growing team working across visual/verbal identity, PR, social, campaigns, content, corporate communications and more.
What you’ll do ...
  • Work with senior management and creatives to continuously shape Dojo’s brand strategy in response to the market, business priorities and our product portfolio
  • Lead a multi-disciplinary brand and communications team and set strategy, culture and development that helps them thrive
  • Evolve, strengthen and evangelise the Dojo brand identity through leadership of the design, copy and content teams
  • Create integrated marketing & communication strategies that support Dojo’s brand, product and growth objectives across multiple markets and audiences, including businesses, consumers, candidates, investors and industry
  • Implement brand control processes, guidelines, playbooks, audits etc. to ensure all user touchpoints are on brand, consistent and compliant
  • Take ownership of Dojo’s brand measurement programme, providing regular reporting that routes brand activity in commercial impact
  • Support Dojo’s international expansion, providing direction on how to build credibility in new markets with the right balance between global consistency and adapting to local audiences
  • Act as a trusted communications advisor to founders and senior leadership, particularly during crisis and issues management
  • Maintain a network of industry, media and agency bodies and represent the Dojo brand at external events as required
What you’ll bring ...
  • Extensive experience across brand, public relations or external communications (exposure to technology, financial or two-sided market businesses is a plus)
  • Hands-on, collaborative management style with a record of leading high-performing teams and a passion for developing people
  • Experience providing communications counsel to senior leaders on complex or sensitive matters, as well as ability to gain executive support on brand investment
  • Inspirational storytelling techniques that can motivate a variety of internal teams to bring our brand to life through innovative communications, products and experiences
  • In-depth knowledge of brand building and reputation management techniques, and a passion for testing the latest brand marketing tactics and strategies
  • An investigative and entrepreneurial mindset that continuously farms for new brand opportunities in Dojo’s fast-paced internal environment and highly-competitive external environment
  • Ability to lead brand and communications initiatives and drive execution through a variety of teams, channels and mediums
  • Preference for working in rapidly-changing environments and implementing new brand strategies, governance and growth processes at scale

About Dojo
We launched Dojo in 2019 to address business owners’ pain points across the UK. Since then, we’ve seen incredible growth as a scaling fintech, welcoming over 150,000 customers and growing the Dojo team to 1,000+ people across five locations. In that time, we’ve also introduced Dojo Virtual Queues & Bookings and the Dojo restaurant finder app, formerly known as WalkUp and loved by 1,000 restaurants and 750,000 diners.
Today, we work towards our mission to empower businesses to thrive in the Experience Economy by creating the tools and technology that turn transactions into meaningful relationships. For our business customers, that means fast funding, the fastest payments, smart integrations, and efficient virtual queues & bookings - all with instant insight across the board. For diners, that means getting seated at their favourite restaurants with just a couple of taps on the Dojo app. Whether it’s for busy business owners or hungry diners, every Dojo product is built to address real customer pain points by our dedicated teams in London, Bristol, Hull and Belfast.

Our values
At Dojo, we’re curious. We have an insatiable desire to learn and innovate. And we’re relentless. We persevere even when it’s easier not to. But, we’re nothing without our customers, who drive everything we do. From day one, Dojo was built on real customer pain points and every one of us is customer-obsessed.

Our way of working
Dojo has adopted a set of shared principles with the aim of increasing in-person collaboration and amplifying our ‘Customer First’ values. We encourage our employees to meet in-person over virtual meetings, and our communication is mostly asynchronous. Unlike most other businesses, we are intentionally avoiding a rules-based approach, and each team is empowered to make the arrangements that work best for their success. The answer to every scenario which tests these principles is: We trust you to use your judgement responsibly, in the best interest of our customers.
