Job Title: Care Home Mental Health Support Worker

Hours: Permanent Full time 40hrs per week including Bank Holidays. flexible working rota.

Pay: different rates of pay pending experience and earning potential.

Good rates of pay for over time and lots of overtime available to offset wages, we do not use agency staff to allow all the staff to benefit form overtime to help pay for holidays, new car and that all important weekends away.

Accountable to: Trainee Registered Manager

Closing date: 'When the right person walks in' hopefully as soon as possible

Role: To support individuals living in a registered care home in the local community to learn and develop independent living skills and enjoy the fun side of life giving people a chance to sustain mental wellbeing, by learning coping skills and positive interactions.

This role is specific to our Westgate on Sea care home. If you can travel to this area comfortably please apply. There is easy access and free parking on site.

Public Travel routes are good to the care home.

Duties: As a Support Worker, you will be responsible for supporting people with managing their mental health, you could be working with people with mild Learning disabilities or autistic traits. Although you will be vital help for supporting people with their everyday activities this excludes nursing care. We are not registered to provide nursing care. You will be relied upon to assist in building trusting relationships and have good rapport to be able to support people to reach their full potential and work towards planning outcomes for moving on in the future at their own pace. you will be expected to manage some administration duties paperwork including, daily reports and evidencing practice.

Activities of support vary from daily living skills, support to appointments, travel, socialising in the community, completing benefit forms and accessing community-based activities such as going to gym, walking groups, community group engagement, work placements and other social and leisure activities; also support to engage with families and safe relationship building.

Are you prepared to be there to support people through difficult periods in their life with the management support and intervention. No day will be the same. Some people may need emotional support to get them through a difficult time, for most we expect that you are able to place yourself in a situation with someone to simply listen and be caring.

As a mental health key worker, you will work in partnership with local organisations including Community Mental Health Teams, Social Services, Probation and Court services, HMRC, GP Surgeries, LD teams and other outside agencies who are there to offer our service users the support they deserve.

Skills and Experience

  • Full driving Licence and car is desirable.
  • An interest in working with and supporting people
  • Experience with Mental Health and supporting or caring for someone would be nice to see.
  • Experience of working with challenging behaviour would be exceptional for this role but if not, training is provided if your willing to learn.
  • Kind and Caring nature.
  • Practical thinkers, but it takes all kinds.
  • Must be flexible in your approach to all situations and to the sector.

Regulations requiring COVID-19 vaccination to work in Care Quality Commission (CQC) registered care homes are to be lifted from 15 March 2022. All staff are expected to follow all PPE guidance in the home and take part in regular testing as part of policy.
