Job summary
Those seeking immigration advice and services are often among the most vulnerable and disadvantaged members of society. The Office of the Immigration Services Commissioner (OISC) is an Arm’s Length Body of the Home Office. We regulate the work of registered Immigration Advisers and tackle the illegal advice-giving activities of criminals that often exploit vulnerable and disadvantaged migrants and threaten the integrity of the immigration system.
We are looking for an exceptional Digital Communications and Social Media Officer to join our National Team, reporting to our Chief Staff Officer. If you are a highly motivated individual with excellent communication skills, a knack for absorbing complex information quickly, and a proven track record in managing an organisation's digital presence, this role is for you. You should be confident in liaising with senior management and able to work under pressure while upholding our organisational values. Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications is essential.
We have an ambitious and wide-ranging transformation programme underway dedicated to putting the Advice Seeker at the heart of all our work. OISC is now a fully remote working organisation with no permanent office and its staff of 57 spread across the UK. Regional teams deliver regulatory and enforcement operations, enabling us to be closer and engage more effectively with those we regulate. A key part of the role will be to deliver a highly effective social media function for the OISC that informs all stakeholders of key developments and activities, raising awareness engagement and commitment to achieving our goals.
It is a part-time role and whilst the hours and work pattern are to be decided it is envisaged to be of a maximum of 3 days per week (7 hours 21 minutes per week excluding breaks).
Job description
Key Responsibilities:
- With the Chief Staff Officer develop the OISC social media policy and strategy, including planning content and designing, implementing, and evaluating campaigns for social media channels
- Seeking out and regularly uploading relevant and interesting content onto the OISC website and feeding internal communications channels.
- Monitor social media channels to assess views and concerns of stakeholders and to identify opportunities to promote the OISC and its messaging to new and existing audiences.
- Keep pace with social media and digital industry trends and advise on new opportunities to reach and develop audiences.
- Proactively build networks and influence relationships with communications experts externally across OGDs and the profession to ensure alignment of approach and activities where relevant.
- Monitor developments with AI and identify areas in which this could be utilised in support of OISC communications.
- Make judgements involving complex facts or situations, which require the analysis, interpretation and comparison of a range of options.
- Develop relationships with Regional Teams and advise on how social media channels can be best utilised in their activities.
- Keep senior management routinely informed of trends within social media channels on issues affecting OISC business.
- Work with the External and Internal Communication Managers to ensure the use of social media is fully integrated within their activities and plans.
- Responsibility for the maintenance and due diligence of a range of OISC social media accounts, with OISC reputation as a significant responsibility.
- Responsible for adapting/ designing information systems to meet the specifications of others;
- To use computer software, applications and other technical formats, to aid role.
Person specification
Essential Criteria:
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to absorb complex information quickly and to communicate it to non expert audiences both orally and when developing content in an engaging, impactful and inclusive way
- Demonstrable experience in growing and managing an organisations digital presence (website and social media), using digital channels to reach audiences effectively and encouraging others to do so as part of the communications mix.
- Excellent knowledge of social media channels and evaluation tools.
- Confident in liaising with and influencing senior management
- Comfortable working consistently under pressure
- Be a highly competent user of Microsoft Office applications such as Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint, with accurate keyboard skills.
