Diabetes Educator (Urdu speaking) x2 – Greater Manchester – Part Time (freelance, self-employed)
Temporary Contract until approx. 31st March 2024
Would you like to be involved in an exciting project to improve the health inequalities of people with Type 2 diabetes within the South Asian Community in Greater Manchester?
X-PERT Health are a registered charity working with NHS Greater Manchester Integrated Care to deliver culturally appropriate group-based structured diabetes education. We are looking to recruit two enthusiastic individuals to assist us to deliver the project within the community. Urdu speaking, awareness of the cultural, dietary and religious practices of the local population and some knowledge of Type 2 diabetes is a requirement. Being a healthcare professional and having experience in delivering group education would be an advantage. You will have the opportunity to further increase your knowledge of diabetes from the clinical team at X-PERT Health whilst gaining valuable experience delivering structured education to this population.
The project involves the delivery of 10 X-PERT Diabetes programmes in Urdu, across Greater Manchester at venues within: Heywood, Middleton and Rochdale; Oldham; Bolton; and Central Manchester. Each programme consists of 3.5 hours per week for six consecutive weeks (set-up time and short focus groups sessions have been factored into these timings). You will also be expected to work in partnership with another educator to ensure that all the sessions are delivered within the project timescales, to cover each other for sickness, holidays etc. You will also be required to run focus groups and advise/assist in the translation of documents required for the project.
Full training and support will be provided to deliver the programmes but you must be able to attend the educator training dates of 27th to 29th June, 9am till 5pm.
Essential attributes
- The ability to speak English and Urdu fluently.
- Basic knowledge of Type 2 diabetes.
- Be confident delivering education to groups, both face to face and on virtual platforms.
- Having a full driving licence with access to your own transport and insurance for business use.
- Your own laptop and stable internet connection to deliver virtual sessions.

Salary - £20 per hour (dependant on experience), which equates to £420 per programme delivered.
