As part of the Ministry of Defence (MoD), DI provides intelligence analysis, specialist outputs and advice supporting decision making across all levels of defence and government. At the heart of DI, is the National Centre for Geospatial Intelligence (NCGI). NCGI works in partnership with various agencies to provide the latest intelligence products to customers.
The Technology branch of NCGI (NCGI-T) is one of the enabling teams, providing IT infrastructure, CIS services and project support, enabling NCGI staff to work efficiently with the appropriate resources whilst assuring the delivery of new technology solutions.

Job description
We are currently looking for someone with a keen interest in the DDaT Profession to join us as an Information Communications Technician (ICT) apprentice.
This is a unique and exciting opportunity to work for a forward thinking organisation that is committed to investing in your development and future career progression.
As an ICT, you will undertake a level 3 learning programme while getting real work experience within the Systems Support Team (SST).
As part of a mixed cohort of ICT apprentices, gaining new skills in a supported learning environment.
This is an intensive learning programme, as an apprentice you will have a minimum of 20% of your working time to undertake your learning and development activities related to the programme but to be successful you will also need to use some of your own time for additional study and complete assignments.

Main Responsibilities:
- Provide technical support to customers for internal and deployable systems through various communication channels.
- Establish and diagnose ICT problems/faults using the required troubleshooting methodology and tools. Undertake the relevant processes with the relevant tools and technologies to resolve ICT technical issues
- Interpret technical specifications relevant to the ICT task and apply appropriate testing methodologies to hardware or software.
- Apply the appropriate security policies to ICT tasks in line with policy.
- Liaise with customers to take to resolve issues or set up systems, keeping them informed of progress.
- Document or raise ICT tasks as appropriate to ensure a clear audit trail and progression of issues
- Install and configure relevant software and hardware as appropriate.
- Coordinate security access requirements and permissions for customers raising as necessary.
- Support the roll out of upgrades or new systems or applications
Alongside the study we will support a programme of on job training to develop your experience and practical knowledge in support of your qualification.
The apprenticeship position is a 23 month fixed term contract moving to the offer of a permanent contract on successful completion of the apprenticeship.
Desirable Criteria
- An understanding of Microsoft Windows Server and Workstations.
- Experience working with LINUX.
- Awareness of virtual environments.
- Some user experience with VM Ware or equivalent.

If you already hold a qualification at Level 3 or higher you may still be eligible for this apprenticeship if your current qualification is in a different subject.

At the initial sift, applicants will be assessed against their experience:
A CV will be required for this application. You will submit using the CV template provided on the CS Jobs dashboard in part two of your application, detailing job history, previous experience, and skills.

You must have the right of abode in the UK and have been ordinarily resident in the EEA (including other countries determined within the EEA or those with bilateral agreements), for at least the previous three years on the first day of learning.
As a result of the changes to the UK immigration rules which came into effect on 1 January 2021, the Ministry of Defence will only offer sponsorship for a skilled worker visa under the points-based system, where a role has been deemed to be business critical.

Some of MoD’s Terms and Conditions of Service (TACOS) changed from 3 February 2014. Those TACOS changes applied to Broader Banded and Skill Zone staff who were new recruits to MoD or who were appointed to a post on substantive promotion, progression or advancement.
