Successful DevOps Engineers are expected to hit the ground running working in a fast-paced and rewarding environment. A typical day sees engineers working from regular business-as-usual tasks such as patching or capacity planning to scoping, owning, and delivering projects across many lines of business.
- Own the tooling, processes, and infrastructure responsible for delivering bespoke applications to the business and its customers
- Maintain excellent end-to-end observability of the whole estate
- Work closely with internal stakeholders and 3rd party partners to deliver results
- Own service configuration and ensure it is managed effectively
- Be an evangelist of best practice and excellence at all levels
- Maintaining technical documentation on internal applications, systems, and processes
- Participation in the incident and problem management functions both in and out of core business hours
- Ensuring systems are kept safe and secure against cybersecurity threats
- Designing and building of new servers and services as requirements are identified from stakeholders
- Scoping and planning projects and being involved in their delivery and management
- Working with software developers to ensure development follows established processes
About You
- Excellent communication and customer skills
- Strong background in Unix/Linux operating systems
- Experience working with cloud platforms in large organisations
- Has a bias for action enabling the prompt delivery of results
- Professional and programmatic approach to troubleshooting and support
- Tenacity to go that extra mile to understand and resolve a problem for a stakeholder Comfortable working with one or more of the following programming languages: PHP, Python, JavaScript
- Proven track record of successfully and efficiently making large architectural changes without impact to service
- Can assess problems and identify the most appropriate path to resolution using data to drive decisions
- Comfortable working both independently and part of a wider team
- Have a keen eye for detail when working on tasks or large-scale projects
- Firm understanding of orchestration and deployment technologies, such as Ansible, Chef, Puppet, Jenkins etc
- One or more Associate level AWS Certifications
- Experience diving deep into problems to fully understand the root cause
- Good background of working with persistent and volatile data sources such as MySQL, Redis, Elasticsearch
- Experience working with infrastructure as code tooling: Terraform, CloudFormation
