In this role, you’ll join our Digital, Data and Technology profession, responsible for a range of services including LAN, WAN, private circuits, internet, and voice services, as well as load balancing security and web filtering. You will support the development and operation of software through tools, environments, and practices. You will lead across large, multiple teams to define the strategic vision.
You’ll be the focal point and expert, able to plan, oversee and deliver work objectives, milestones, and success metrics. You will also be a key contributor to internal stakeholder relations, reporting on Digital, Data and Technology related matters to different Directorates within Ofgem.
To join us in this role, you’ll need experience of working in a complex environment, acting as an internal expert advising senior leads on strategic and operational performance related matters. You will have experience with Azure, Docker, Kuberneters, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) for Azure and modern monitoring tooling systems. You will also have a background in building and installing new platform tooling solutions such as monitoring, secret management, and service discovery solutions.
You will be experienced in information security, and can design, quality review and quality-assure solutions and services with security controls embedded, specifically engineering as mitigation against security threats. You will also have a strong understanding of how to apply the most appropriate modern standards and practices, able to take responsibility for coaching others. In addition, you will be experienced in using a variety of methods of protyping and how to look at strategic service deign end to end. You will also know how to establish standards and procedures across a service product lifecycle, including developing this and ensuring adherence.

Job description
- Operate as Ofgem’s internal Technology Network Engineer expert, providing specialist advice on Digital, Data and Technology related matters to Directorates and their key stakeholders
- Be the focal point and expert in a multi-disciplinary team in a specific work area in the context of operating in a Professions and Flexible Resourcing model.
- Plan, oversee and deliver a set of work deliverables on time and to a high standard through effective project management and support of multidisciplinary team members.
- Provide inclusive corporate leadership, using your expertise to provide comprehensive knowledge sharing, support and development that demonstrate commitment to Ofgem values.
- Provide clear and transparent work objectives, milestones, and success metrics in your area of expertise to oversee and co-ordinate successful team outcomes.
- Collaborate closely with other teams to manage interdependencies, risks, and resourcing to support portfolio delivery.
- Where required, be jointly responsible with the PDL on welfare and pastoral care of all colleagues.

- As part of department, you are responsible for a range of services including LAN, WAN, private circuits, Internet, and voice services. In addition, the team provides a range of other services such as load balancing, security, and web filtering.
Key Outputs and Deliverables
- Commonly referred to as ‘DevOp engineers,’ development operations engineers support the development and operation of software through tools, environments, and practices.
- A principal DevOps engineer leads and plans development across large or multiple teams, defining the strategic vision for delivery.
