Sen DevOps Engineer

Luminary is looking for a Senior DevOps Engineer with exceptional programming skills and cloud infrastructure experience to help effectively grow our services.

We’re looking for an engineer who is well-versed in infrastructure as code and excited about modern web technologies to join the Platform team at Luminary. We're at a critical point in planning our future developments and we need the expertise and insight of an experienced DevOps engineer to help us scale and fulfil our bold ambitions within the music tech world.

As a Senior DevOps Engineer at Luminary, you will work closely with other developers and key stakeholders within the business, and report directly to the Director of Platform. Working on our primarily JavaScript and AWS-hosted stack, you will have ownership of our infrastructure - the essential foundation of our customer-facing websites, RESTful API, database and subscription services.

We do sprints and standups, communicate a lot, support each other, value each other’s opinions, and constantly strive to collaboratively improve our working environment.

What you’ll do:

  • Collaborate with the Platform Lead to define the long-term vision of the infrastructure architecture
  • Lead the in-progress migration to a serverless event-driven architecture on AWS
  • Deploy, automate, manage and maintain AWS cloud-based production systems
  • Ensure security best practices are implemented and maintained
  • Evaluate new technology alternatives and vendor products
  • Develop and maintain tooling as well as communicate their use to the wider team
  • Help to continuously improve the quality and performance of our Platform services
  • Contribute to incident management and help debug issues

What you’ll need:

  • Experience and understanding of microservices and event-driven architectures
  • Proficiency in evaluating and selecting cloud services
  • Experience with AWS cloud services with a focus on serverless and modern devops
  • Strong Infrastructure as Code experience
  • Up-to-date Docker and containerisation techniques
  • Developer mindset with experience in a modern programming language
  • Knowledge of latest threats and security best practices
  • Experience setting up CI/CD
  • Familiarity working with Linux/Unix servers
  • Knowledge of different Git workflows and repository structures

Our current stack:

  • AWS App Runner applications
  • Node.js or Docker Elastic Beanstalk applications
  • Vercel for some websites
  • Some Lambda microservices and utility functions
  • S3
  • Cloudfront

  • Cloudformation templates
  • CDK
  • MongoDB (Atlas)
  • Javascript / Typescript
  • React/Next.js
  • Express
  • CircleCI
  • Github Actions
  • Cloudflare

Luminary offers:

  • The opportunity to work with the leading minds within technology, hardware, and music creation to directly impact the way we create and interact with music
  • A competitive salary according to your level of experience
  • A range of meaningful benefits including:
    • Following probation, a competitive health care cash plan and a generous bike-to-work scheme
    • A competitive company pension scheme following 3 months of full time work
    • 23 days holiday with 2 additional social impact days and the standard 8 statutory holiday days
    • 20 hours per year dedicated to volunteering within the local community
    • Flexible working hours
    • ‘Lending Library’ of all Luminary products
    • Team member discounts on Luminary products
    • Apple laptop and relevant software licenses for your role
    • Generous Parental Leave policy
    • Currently on hold due to COVID-19 remote working:
      • A great working environment, featuring daily complimentary homemade plant-based lunches and limitless homemade GOLDnola
      • Wellness programme which includes regularly offered massages
      • Friends and family events
      • Company-wide Hack Days and workshops to expand your skills
      • In-house bike storage
  • The majority of our team members are currently working remotely due to COVID-19. We will discuss the latest updates with regards to remote working as part of our interview process.
