Job introduction

Are you passionate about delivering change that has a long-lasting, positive impact on people’s lives and where they live? This is an exciting opportunity to join a service that has a direct influence on the way people travel around Brighton & Hove.

We are one of the busiest unitary Highway Authorities outside London and this role will be central to ensuring that the transport impacts of development projects within the city are well managed through agreed travel plans.

Interview date: TBC

For an informal discussion, please contact Andrew Renaut, Head of Transport Policy & Strategy - [email protected]

About the role

Join us in Brighton and Hove – a unique, energetic, diverse centre for culture in the South East and an exciting place to develop your career.

The city places emphasis on high-quality, forward-thinking, sustainable development and travel solutions. As a council we are committed to creating a more liveable city in which residents and visitors feel healthier, safer, more socially connected and included.

As Development Travel Plan Officer you will ensure the traffic impacts of building construction projects in the city are well managed, helping to minimise any detrimental effects on the transport network and environment, and meet the diverse needs of our community. The role is also vital for improving perceptions of the city as a destination for investment and provides a rare opportunity to influence how development in the city is led.

As the successful candidate you will have a good knowledge of transport planning and a keen focus on compliance. You’ll also have a strong customer ethos and excellent communication skills.

This role is part of a newly expanded team being established to respond flexibly and efficiently to the growing development demands of the city. As such, you may be interested in the other team roles being advertised alongside this post currently.

You will be based in our modern, open plan offices in the city centre and benefit from flexible working, including home-working. Joining an enthusiastic and supportive team, you’ll collaborate with colleagues from a range of fields, working closely with the Planning service and Transport Project teams to deliver transport changes across the city.

In light of the Covid-19 pandemic special arrangements will be made with respect to interviews, ensuring a safe interview process and equality of access for all participants.

As part of your application, you will need to complete your education and work history and provide answers to some shortlisting questions. Your answers to the shortlisting questions are the most important part of your application as they will be used in the shortlisting process to assess whether you meet the essential requirements for the role that are set out in the person specification and to decide whether you should be offered an interview. Before you start your application, please read our guidance here (Shortlisting questions guidance (brighton-hove.gov.uk)) as this gives important advice which will increase your chance of success in the shortlisting process.

Additional information

Your starting salary will be pro rata if the above position is less than 37 hours or term-time only.

Work Permits: We may be able to obtain a Work Permit for this post but this is subject to meeting the requirements of the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) Points-based Immigration System. Please see Gov.uk for more information on the Skilled Worker Visa.
