Charity People is collaborating with the University of Oxford’s world-leading Social Sciences department to offer an aspiring fundraising professional the chance to learn, grow and hone their philanthropy skills in the role of Development Officer.

About the role:
You’ll join one of world’s largest groups of social scientists, committed to tackling some of the major challenges facing society such as inequality, migration, justice, sustainability and climate change. There is a huge breadth and variety to the role, fundraising across 11 departments including Education, Politics, Geography, Archaeology and International Development.
The role of the University’s Development Office is to secure philanthropic support. Working as part of the country’s most successful higher education Development team, you’ll help to fund the work of academics and researchers with an international reputation for excellence.
To give you an idea of how this role will look and feel:
- You’ll facilitate leadership gifts up to £50,000, proactively engaging and stewarding donors
- Develop creative and compelling cases for support to engage and excite donors
- Assist in producing materials for prospects and projects
- Help to create and implement donor and alumni journeys, ensuring memorable experiences
- Deal with financial and due diligence administration
About you:
First and foremost, you’ll have an interest in higher education and, in particular, the potential for research in social sciences to influence and change the world.
You’ll ideally already have either fundraising, sales, communications, business development, alumni relations, or marketing experience. We’re looking for you to be able to positively and confidently engage and build rapport, both in conversation and writing.
We’d also love to see you demonstrate the following skills and qualities:
- Think strategically and tactically about the relations between potential donors and fundraising goals
- Emotional intelligence, and the ability to work sensitively with multiple stakeholders
- Be creative in producing materials, with an understanding of how to articulate projects for donors
- Able to manage, prioritise and adapt to a diverse workload, meet deadlines, and work calmly under pressure
- Be curious; eager to learn, develop skills and try new things
