Job description

Job Introduction

BBC Studios Documentary Unit is the home of high quality, thought provoking and award-winning factual content. Powerful storytelling is at the heart of what we do. From Fight the Power – how Hip Hop Changed the World, to The Met – Policing London and Inside Our Autistic Minds – our distinctive, ambitious and informative output aims ranges from observational access to live programming, from premium co-productions series to podcasts.

Studios is in an exciting period of growth, pitching to all the major broadcasters including Netflix, Sky, Apple TV, Disney + as well as the BBC. Our development team is at the heart of shaping the future of Studios.

Main Responsibilities

We are looking for an experienced Development Executive to work across our slate of ideas from true crime to popular factual. In particular, candidates should have experience developing multi-part single narrative series.

This role requires first class narrative writing, often to a tight deadline. It is desirable to have experience of managing your own slate of ideas, as well as pitching them. You should also have extensive experience of edit producing business-winning sizzles.

Are you the right candidate?

Successful applicants will have at least 2 years' of experience working as a Development Executive across Factual TV and a broad awareness and interest in documentary and popular factual content for the UK and international markets. They should have experience of developing ideas for the major broadcasters as well as the streamers such as Netflix, Nat Geo, Apple TV, and Disney +.

This position is London-based with the potential to work on a hybrid basis.
