Overview of Role
This Staff Engineer will be part of a team that conceptualizes, develops, and delivers, innovative assembly processes and equipment. This role is designed as a technical contributor that results in improved surgical technologies being launched in the market on-time and per manufacturing quality and performance requirements.
To be successful in this role, an individual must possess in-depth understanding of fundamental engineering principles, excellent engagement skills, passion for health care and medical device technologies. Further, the individual, must be able to translate business/customer needs into process engineering solutions, apply technical rigor to assembly challenges, and demonstrate outstanding capabilities in Design for Manufacturing, Assembly and Inspection (DFX). This individual should demonstrate the ability to organize themselves and motivate team members to achieve project, group and business objectives.
Key Responsibilities:
- Seamlessly collaborate with all R&D functions, equipment suppliers and our manufacturing plants to bring full-scale production solutions from concept to stable production.
- Champion DFX and be the Voice of Development Engineering within the NPD teams. Drive robustness and excellence in the DFX strategy for projects.
- Investigate and enable new manufacturing technologies and process improvements to drive innovation and reduce time to market.
- Encourage technical mastery, collaboration, cross-training, critical thinking and problem solving. Mentor and coach individuals as required to drive stronger business results.
- Ensure projects are carried out in compliance with regulatory requirements (GMP, ISO, MDD), EES policy and procedure requirements.
Qualifications
Education & Required Skills/Experiences:
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering with a minimum of (6) years of proven experience in a dynamic R&D environment with emphasis on new product innovation, production line development, and scale up is required
- Experience developing manual/semi-automated assembly processes of small, complex components
Preferred Skills & Experience:
- Experience with vision systems and controls
- Experience in the medical device industry.
- Must have proven track record of achieving objectives in a team based environment.
- Excellent communication, teamwork and influencing skills. Must be proficient at breaking down complex issues to drive to succinct solutions.
- Experience interacting with and successfully engaging multi-regional teams.
Other:
- This position is based in Cincinnati, OH and requires up to 25% (International/Domestic) travel
