Assistant Development Manager

JOB PURPOSE

Reporting to the Senior Development Manager Delivery, Sixty Bricks are looking for an Assistant Development Manager to support more senior team members on their projects. Though a supporting role, you will still work independently and must take responsibility for the completion of your own allocated areas of work. Key to this role is the successful delivery of the Sixty Bricks Mission and Business Plan Priorities, which include:

  • To be the net zero carbon developer of choice in Waltham Forest, maximising the social housing provided in a financially sustainable manner ensuring profits enable housing and community benefits in the Borough.
  • Delivering up to 4,000 new homes in the next 10 years – one new home every day - with an annual investment of c£50m presently, with a planned increase to c£100m within 3 years.
  • National sector leader, working towards a net zero carbon development business and providing net zero carbon, environmentally positive, social housing schemes.
  • Maximising the company’s Social Value offer through biodiversity, mutually supportive mixed communities with shared infrastructure, generating employment apprenticeships and training opportunities for residents.
  • Working with the Council to promote 15-minute neighbourhoods with appropriate infrastructure.

Key responsibilities are as follows:

  • Supporting senior members of the team with achieving scheme objectives.
  • Arranging and attending appropriate meetings with consultant teams and contractor/developers to ensure that strategic and operational relationships are productive.
  • Assisting in the production and updating of delivery programs, project reports and appraisals to ensure any variations are identified at the earliest opportunity.
  • Ensure effective risk and budget management on all schemes.
  • Maintain a high performing project management regime for all projects to meet agreed targets.
  • Assist with delivering procurement that secures construction services on the best terms within the current market and is compliant with London Borough Waltham Forest procurement policy.
  • Work with the Construction & Design Quality Manager to ensure compliance with CDM Regulations and Sixty Bricks internal Health and Safety policies throughout the whole Development process.
  • To liaise on a regular basis with internal and external stakeholders (Sales and Marketing, Fire Safety Team, Asset Management, Lettings, Neighbourhoods, Commercial, Service Charge Team, etc.), providing regular updates on scheme progress, ensuring full consultation of client choices in a timely manner and safeguarding key milestones and providing relevant sales information including marketing plans, show-flat handover to ensure a smooth sales and marketing process and projected sales income is achieved.
  • Ensure successful handover of all new homes, working cohesively with the Housing Operations and Sales teams so that Sales, People Services and Place Services colleagues achieve agreed resident satisfaction targets.
  • Work with the Aftercare Team to resolve complaints and defects. Assist with the contractual enforcement of defects obligations prior to end of the Defects Liability Period. Where post-DLP defects are identified as the responsibility of the Development Team, ensure issues are resolved promptly.

Work with the Client Team to respond to requests for information ensuring quality of data being presented is accurate.

ABOUT YOU

You will be:

  • Organised and motivated and able to manage allocated tasks effectively.
  • Calm under pressure and able to prioritise tasks.
  • A good communicator, building credibility and respect with internal and external stakeholders

You will have:

  • A good standard of written and oral communication skills.
  • A good standard of mathematical skills.
  • An understanding and interest in the development and construction sectors. Existing experience of the sector is beneficial, but not essential;
  • An understanding of the design and construction process including the ability to learn to read plans, technical drawings and reports;
  • The ability to manipulate and process data accurately, and to understand development appraisals, use financial software systems and carry out numerical analysis;
  • An understanding of the Affordable and Social housing sector and a desire to promote Sixty Bricks as a brand;
  • A serious interest in furthering your professional qualifications related to construction, development or housing.
