About The Role
This is an exciting opportunity to join a fast paced creative visual team at The Telegraph. We’re looking to push the boundaries of digital editorial design using information graphics and an increasing range of visual storytelling forms. We want someone who is going to help shape the future of The Telegraph’s digital journalism using their creative intelligence to engage our audience with informative content and have them interact with the stories we tell. The ideal candidate will be able to adapt their visual ideas to different narrative types and apply them utilising relevant digital media formats.
Key Responsibilities
- Create engaging interactive information graphics
- Develop new ways of presenting stories on our digital platforms
- Responding to daily stories as well as special features
- Visually communicate complex subject matter in a clear and concise way
- Translate raw data into engaging pieces of graphic journalism
- Manage daily responsibilities and workflow
- Lead the conversation on digital graphics with newsroom members
- Collaborate and liaise with: Reporters, Journalists, Data Journalists, Editors, Photographers, Designers, Developers, Animators, Illustrators, Video producers
- Working with the Director of Graphic Journalism to set a long term agenda and development plan for digital information graphics at The Telegraph
- Very strong graphic design practice
- Good knowledge of editorial design
- Digital graphic production
- Work with basic front-end code (HTML / CSS) with added bonus of Python / Javascript experience
- Extensive understanding of user based design
- Interpret, analyse and edit data into provoking narratives
- Plot scales, trends and hierarchies with absolute precision
- Creative application of data visualisations
- Good organisational skills and the ability to manage time effectively
