Design Technician Apprentices

Thinking big? Think Bigger

Help engineer global energy solutions. Become a KBR Apprentice design technician.

KBR are looking for two Design Technician Apprentices

KBR Who??

KBR are a global science, technology and engineering company. Their Integrated Solutions international (ISI) team are looking to recruit two associate design technician apprentices to join their elite engineering team. KBR ISI are world leaders in the energy industry and now is an exciting time to join the team. We work on some of the biggest and most complex energy industry projects around the world and our teams are some of the best and brightest.

The energy industry is at a pivotal point in history. With traditional energy such as oil and gas needing to become more sustainable and the world looking to alternative energy sources, our engineers are at the forefront of this energy transition for clients (who are some of the biggest names in the industry – BP, Shell, Aramco, Total…)

As an apprentice you would join our team based in Leatherhead, Surrey and get to be part of some amazing projects. We would be committed to developing your skills and career on some of the biggest and best projects out there.

Who are we looking for?

We are looking for two enthusiastic potential engineers to join our 2 year scheme. You should relish problem solving, have a positive ‘can do’ attitude, be enthusiastic to learn new skills and potentially keen to travel.

You will need to have achieved 3 A level passes with grade C or above in Mathematics or Physical Science. Alternatively, you could hold a BTEC National Diploma / Certificate – Level 3 in Mechanical Engineering.

Sound interesting?

We will be holding an informal open day to show you more about what we do.

How much is the pay?

The pay starts at £20k for the first year rising to £22k for the second year.

Which qualification will you study?

Our apprentices will attend a local college on day release to complete a Higher National Certificate (HNC) in Mechanical Engineering. This will form part of a structured learning program to achieve an Advanced Modern Apprenticeship in Mechanical Engineering. The remaining four days will be spent learning on the job at KBR. KBR will provide extra support if needed for apprentices to complete their college assignments.

What would you be doing?

You would be starting out with our Piping and Layout group. You would be helping to develop the complex overall layout of energy plants (such as onshore and offshore platforms) often from a blank sheet of paper. The team has to think about every aspect of the operation such as how a plant operates, how it can be maintained and above all how it can stay safe.

This is done in a 2D and/or 3D environment. You will develop CAD skills to a very high level and receive in-house and external training.

What’s in it for me?

By the end of the two years’ you will have great communication skills and have grown in confidence. KBR apprentices who show a high-level aptitude can be sponsored through University as well.

KBR ISI provides unrivalled expertise in the energy engineering field and the sky is the limit for the right person. If global travel is for you then there are projects around the world and KBR careers in engineering are highly rewarding in every way.

What skills will you learn?

  • Mastery of 2D and 3D applications used at KBR.
  • Oversight into what each engineering discipline does and how projects are delivered at KBR.
  • Develop knowledge of Plant and Piping Layout and the key deliverables produced by Piping.
  • Learn piping requirements including the specifics when designing piping systems for different types of equipment.
  • Become familiar with the KBR WAY engineering standards and procedures as well as provide input to their development and enhancement.
  • Being part of a team and working towards project goals.
  • Be part of KBR Digitalisation journey
