POSITION DESCRIPTION – Communications Coordinator
Engineers Nova Scotia is the regulatory body that licenses and administers 8,500 engineers and engineers-in-training engaged in the practice of engineering in Nova Scotia in accordance with the Engineering Profession Act and other published practice guidelines. Engineers Nova Scotia serves and protects the public interest.
As part of our communication strategy, engagement and reach to our registrants and the engineering community is a high priority, this includes social media and digital communications over our five social media platforms (Facebook, YouTube, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn), as well as our bi-monthly registrant e-newsletter, website content administration, and other communications administration tasks as required.
This Full-Time/Permanent position reports to the Director of Communications and Information Technology, and primary responsibilities includes Social Media and Digital Content communications and engagement using all tools available to you. copywriting, working with staff, committees and partners in the engineering community to source content for print and social media, as well as social media administration. Various communications administrative duties as required.

$50k-$55k/year, dependent upon experience and skill
NOTE: Permanent employees are eligible for group benefits after 3 months
HOURS OF WORK
- 37.5 hours/week
- Schedule as coordinated with Supervisor
- Work Week: Monday to Friday with option for up to 2 days remotely/week

JOB DESCRIPTION
This position assists the Director of Communications and Information Technology in coordinating content for our various communications mediums and assisting with day-to-day management of the Association’s social media sites, including producing content, publishing messaging, and monitoring feedback under the Director’s oversight. The successful candidate has the option to work remotely (up to 2 days a week) and is expected to meet in-person with the Director once or twice weekly, or as required. The Communications and Media Coordinator will be available to attend various organizational events as required.
Skills/Key Competencies Required:
- Intermediate to high level knowledge and practical use of Email Marketing software and analytics.
- Full working knowledge of Microsoft Office suite: Word, Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel (Access knowledge an asset)
- Write a variety of different content to support communications efforts, including newsletters, website copy, brochures, press releases, Profiles and biographies/profiles.
- Assist communications team in developing and implementing a communications strategy designed to further organizations strategic objectives
- Monitor analytics and create reports detailing the successes and failures of communications campaigns and strategies
- Stay up to date on industry trends and make recommendations for adjustments to communications strategies and practices
- Support for events to help keep the organizational branding and message top of mind
- Assist with coordinating volunteers, support staff, vendors and more to support events
- Ability to prioritize work and to adjust work effort as operational tempo demands
- Experience working within a corporate/professional environment
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills with a great attention to detail are critical for this position.

Experience:
- Social Media administration and management – 3+ years (preferred)
- 2+ years experience in a communications or marketing role
- Superior time management and organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
- An analytical mind and ability to think critically
- Exceptional writing and interpersonal communication skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Proven knowledge of communications and marketing ethics and best practices

Selection Process:
Candidates selected will undergo two interviews (both virtual) If you move past the first interview, you will be required to submit a portfolio that aligns with the skills required for this position, samples of posts, analytic reports, content creation, social media management, written communications etc. Your portfolio will determine whether you are selected for the second interview. Candidates may also be asked to perform an exercise or short project related to the skills and responsibilities of this position.
