Job description
We require a Design Engineer / Design Draughtsperson with 5 years+ experience in Material Handling, mechanical Engineering, structural and secondary steelwork.
Ideally previous experience in heavy duty conveyors, chutes, hoppers, silo's, pipe work, large ductwork, structural steel, staircases, platforms etc.
Should be capable of attending sites to survey and then producing a workable general arrangement drawing for proposal.
Comfortable with taking the general arrangement drawing, either produced by themselves, or others and completing a full set of manufacturing drawings for the fabrication shop.
Must be able to work using own initiative and able to work under pressure whilst producing accurate comprehensive manufacturing details.
Ability to mentor or supervise Apprentices if required and able to attend meetings for client review when required.
Overview
- Working closely within an engineering team to help develop bespoke design solutions for materials handling and structural steel work projects.
- Site surveying to enable engineering drawings in a wide range of industries and environments.
- Production of both GA and detail fabrication drawings for primary and secondary steel work, conveying and storage equipment, Tanks, silos, hoppers and chute work.
- Actively participate in tender packages with input into design for both costs and quality optimisation
- Work with our apprentices to help guide the next generation of designers.
The skills required are
- Experience of working on a variety of bulk materials handling and structural steel work projects
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D/3D, Able to produce 3D layouts and models of manufacturing plants inc conveyor systems, chutes, hoppers, silos, access steelwork.
- Working knowledge of Advance Steel or other 3D software would be advantageous.
- Be able to produce sheet metal developments and dxf files for laser cutting.
- Must be able to use AutoCAD to produce comprehensive clear and accurate 2D manufacturing drawings and general arrangements.
- Be able to import / export and insert files from different software packages, stp files, Tekla models, coordinate and produce master models from client information and 3rd party suppliers.
- Has experience of working with laser scanned data, point clouds etc.
- Experience of using Navisworks to manage, coordinate and create models
- Competent in the use of Microsoft word excel for producing documentation, reports, drawing registers, material, and bolt lists
- Capable of understanding a structural design calculation and report
- Excellent organisational skills
- Experience in interpretation of engineering and quality specifications and scopes
- Proven experience in similar role (min 5 years)
- Preferably Apprentice trained in engineering trade / or management role
- Excellent communication skills
- Computer Literate
- Knowledge Of CE Regulations
- UK Driving Licence and willingness to travel and carry out surveying work across the UK.
