The Design Engineer (Continuous Improvement) will be responsible for driving a better customer experience by leading engineering activities for the Motorcycle/On-Road business unit through careful design, manufacturing, and quality activities.
This person will support the technical resolution of issues facing our current production line and customers – including Field Warranty, component issues affecting production, supply chain disruptions, and customer feedback. A successful individual will be able to identify issue trends, perform root cause analysis, design/develop effective countermeasures, and implement these to production. The Design Engineer will collaborate and work closely with Systems Engineers, Vehicle Architects, Program Engineers, Validation Engineers, Souring, Manufacturing, and Service teams to provide agile and effective solutions to our vehicles and customers “to create a better customer experience and continuously “close the gap” between the field and future development.

Responsibilities
- Identify issue trends, perform root cause analysis, design/develop effective countermeasures, and implement solutions to production and/or field
- Support diagnosis and resolution of customer/field vehicle cases
- Establish project schedule from concept to production implementation in line with overall business requirements
- Assess requests from suppliers to deviate/change product and or design requirements
- Analyze warranty data to identify patterns of defect
- Generate or Revise CAD models, detail drawings, and analysis required to support the above and supervise their release through the release cycle
- Determine ideal component manufacturing route to ensure overall design, performance, and cost conformance
- Create or revise component or system design requirements and specifications
- Prepare preliminary sketches and/or schematic diagrams and/or presentations to aid in the understanding and solution of engineering problems and risk
- Performs other miscellaneous project related assignments
Experience and Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, Electrical or a related field
- 2-5+ years related design or manufacturing experience; preferably in related consumer product categories (automotive, Agriculture, accessories, etc.)
- Demonstrated experience in technical problem solving
- Knowledge of high-volume manufacturing processes
- Demonstrated exposure to 3-D CAD modeling software (CREO, PTC Windchill, Pro-Engineering, or related strongly preferred)
- Experience and Knowledge of GD&T, FMEA, and dimensional tolerance stack-ups
- Strong interpersonal communication skills (both oral and written communication)
- Ability to work under pressure, balance priorities and maintain a positive attitude
- Interest in powersports or riding experience (Motorcycle and/or ORV) is a plus
