Job description

This is an exciting opportunity to join a well-established global business that designs, manufactures and supports industrial turbochargers supplied into the power generation, marine and rail traction industries.

As a member of the Engineering design team, the successful candidate will be working on the design of new turbochargers and associated sub-assemblies and components. They will also be undertaking design tasks in support of the existing product range, whether that is designing a new component variants or resolving issues encountered during turbocharger operation. They will be expected to compile, check and maintain technical documentation in support of their allocated design tasks.

Other responsibilities will include partaking in design and project meetings, interfacing with other business functions and external suppliers, and provide constructive input to continuous improvement initiatives.

As they gain experience, the successful candidate will also lead small technical projects and be involved in product validation, testing and associated development.

Qualifications:

- Degree/HND or time served Mechanical Design Engineer

Experience:

- Minimum 3 years' in a mechanical design environment, using CAD tools for 3D modelling and 2D drawing; surface modelling would be advantageous

- Demonstrate design leadership especially the ability to problem solve and drive assigned activities through to completion in a timely manner

- Interaction with other key functions, especially analytical, manufacturing and sourcing. Knowledge of LEAN tools

- Design of relatively complex components, ideally castings and their subsequent machinist operations

- Design for manufacture, assembly and service

- Creation and maintenance of supporting design documentation e.g. DFMEA's, engineering instructions, specifications and standards

Skills:

- A self motivated problem solver with the ability to propose and implement suitable design solutions

- Ability to assess analytical results and implement recommendations or propose suitable alternatives

- Proficient CAD operator, preferably NX

- Thorough understanding of engineering drawings, with the ability to create, read and check. Good knowledge of dimensioning and tolerancing in accordance with BS8888

- Effective communication skills

- Attention to detail and focus on quality of output

Job Types: Full-time, Permanent

Salary: £29,000.00-£43,000.00 per year
