Whilst DCMS is advertising this vacancy, the successful candidate(s) may ultimately be appointed to the newly created Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT).

The Cyber Security and Digital Identity (CSDI) team wants to appoint a Deputy Risk, Assurance and Governance Manager to join the CSDI Programme Management Office (PMO).

The PMO is at the heart of delivering the CSDI portfolio. The PMO team is fast-paced, agile and supportive. We provide financial, risk and assurance reporting to senior leaders in CSDI, the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) and the Cabinet Office. We analyse and report progress and risks against the NCS, we provide secretarial support for cross government National Cyber Strategy (NCS) activity and coordinate assurance reporting so our stakeholders are assured we are delivering in the right way.

You will work alongside our CSDI policy and delivery teams that play a pivotal role in meeting the outcomes of the NCS. You will report to senior leaders in CSDI helping them make well informed and robust decisions about the direction of the CSDI programme and its large financial budget. You will also have the ability to work alongside colleagues from across DSIT on matter that cross different directorates and policy areas.

Job description

Some of your responsibilities will include;

  • Coordinating and drafting briefings for commissions on behalf of the Directorate while maintaining strategic oversight and delivering at pace;
  • Maintain the risk management processes within the Directorate, ensuring that risks are documented, reported and reviewed, that mitigations are appropriately owned and associated actions completed;
  • Assist with the management and reporting of our staff headcount within the Directorate with particular emphasis during business planning rounds;
  • Act as the secretariat for senior meetings by arranging meetings, commissioning content and aligning speakers;
  • Driving change and improvement in risk, assurance and governance processes within the Directorate;
  • Engagement with DSIT and government stakeholders on risk, assurance and governance and
  • You may be required to carry out additional duties including deputising for the Risk, Assurance and Governance Lead, according to business need.

Person specification

The ideal candidate would have the following key skills and experience:

Essential requirements:

  • Stakeholder management skills, with the ability to form, build and sustain strong relationships with a wide variety of people, including senior stakeholders;
  • Be well organised, flexible in approach and resilient under pressure, with the ability to manage and prioritise your workload to meet changing demands and targets;
  • Written and oral communication skills - the ability to request and communicate information in a respectful and timely manner, in order to deliver results for your team;
  • Attention to detail and ability to accurately review data, highlight and communicate key messages;
  • Ability to work methodically and on own initiative independently or with team members to meet deadlines.

Desirable skills:

  • Excellent Microsoft Office or Google Suite skills e.g. the ability to use Excel / Sheets to manage, organise and present large amounts of data.
  • Previous experience of producing well-structured and clearly articulated documents and presentations drawing from multiple sources of evidence.
