Job description
The post holder will support the Mortuary Services Manager and Adult Bereavement Lead across Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust (MFT).
The post holder will be responsible for the day to day operational running of all mortuaries across all sites at the Manchester University NHS Foundation Trust.
As the Deputy for the mortuaries services the post holder will work autonomously, liaising with all members of the multi-disciplinary team involved in care of the deceased.
The post holder is responsible for all aspects of after death care and will ensure that services promote dignified care of the deceased at all times.
The post holder will maintain standards according to relevant legislation, HTA and ISO guidance and will provide specialized training for relevant staff in after death care and post-mortem assistance.
The post holder will deputize for the Mortuary Services Manager and Adult Bereavement Lead acting as a role model and mentor to junior staff, ensuring that professional standards are maintained. The post holder will encourage close team working and foster cross site working links to ensure consistency in procedures and practice and assisting in developing a robust contingency and business continuity plan. In conjunction with the Mortuary Services Manager and Adult Bereavement Lead the post holder will represent mortuary services in Greater Manchester mass fatality planning.
In conjunction with the Mortuary Services Manager and Adult Bereavement Lead, Head of Service and Clinical Leads provide technical advice in the area of specialized anatomical pathology technology and care of the deceased person to the organization.
Supervise and perform investigations of varying complexity.
Ensure the highest scientific standards are maintained and to contribute to the improvement of technical and scientific standards within the department.
Demonstrate extensive use of personal judgement based on advanced experience and knowledge to ensure correct decisions are made by Anatomical Pathology Technicians and mortuary support staff on all aspects of care of the deceased.
Responsible for following departmental standard operating procedures.
Ensure that the Mortuary Services Manager and Adult Bereavement Lead is informed of any patient incident within the mortuary in a timely manner.
Advise and liaise with non-departmental staff (i.e. clinicians, ward staff, staff in other Trusts,
Advise and liaise with external agencies (i.e. Coroner, funeral directors, social services, police officers) re clinical aspects of care of the deceased.
Professionally accountable for ensuring patient safety within the mortuary environment.
