This an exciting opportunity to join a dynamic new team at the heart of Sandwell council, supporting the Leader and Cabinet as they drive through improvements within the council and make decisions on vital services.
Sandwell has an ambitious change programme to build on wide-ranging improvements and deliver outstanding services for this unique borough. The Deputy Head of Leader and Cabinet Office will support the political leadership of the Council to ensure their vision for the borough is delivered.
Working closely with the Head of the Leader & Cabinet Office, this role will manage day-to-day operational and administrative services for the Leader and Cabinet, contributing to policy development and ensuring the Leader and Cabinet have high quality support to make informed decisions, communicate effectively and work in partnership with residents, businesses, stakeholders, and communities.
You will sit within the Law & Governance Directorate and you will be perfectly placed to work collaboratively with colleagues across the Council help shape policy and projects in line with the priorities of the Leader and Cabinet and the strategic direction of the Council.
Ideally, you will have experience of leading teams and working with senior leaders and stakeholders and be passionate about growing, motivating and developing staff. You will also have a problem-solving mindset and be able to lead complex programmes of work.
You will have a deep understanding of the challenges facing local government and be proactive in scanning and identifying challenges and opportunities facing Sandwell, including the Leader’s work representing Sandwell across the region and nationally. You will be a visible manager and leader, confident in communicating to a wide variety of audiences, in writing and in person.
You will have a strong understanding of the political environment, and the role of the Leader’s Office in supporting the Leader and Cabinet as non-political staff.
You will be primarily based in Oldbury Council House and whilst agile and flexible working is supported, the nature of the role means that you will be expected to maintain a high degree of visible presence in the office. There will also be the requirement to work occasional evenings and weekends.
