The Department is recognized as one of the leading departments for research in its subject area, worldwideCurrent research areas include Information and Communication Engineering; Electronic Materials and Devices (including Nanotechnology); Optical Communications & Networks; Photonics and Sensors, Systems and Circuits. The Department is also part of the world-leading London Centre for Nanotechnology.Our experimental research facilities are a particular strength and we are well placed to support experimental research in the areas of: - Electrons in Materials and Quantum Devices - Experimental wireless systems, sensing and signal processing - High-speed, ultra-wideband, optical communications systems & networks - Molecular beam epitaxy of silicon and compound semiconductors - RF Integrated Electronics. The Department has an extensive teaching programme, both at undergraduate (BEng and MEng) and Masters levels and a strong commitment to research led teaching. About the role

The main purpose of the role of Departmental Manager is: - To lead the professional (administrative and technical) operations of a large Department, delivering operational excellence across all administrative activities, and managing the Department’s external relations initiatives. - To determine and implement the Department’s support strategy for teaching and research, developing and evolving administrative policies and procedures and implementing those already established. - To manage and co-ordinate with the Faculty, School and UCL to ensure effective administrative support for the Department. - To lead on Faculty and UCL initiatives. This role is eligible for hybrid working with a minimum of 20% on-site. About you

The successful candidate must have the following: - Substantial relevant experience or educated to degree level, or equivalent qualifications. - Proven track record in administration and management within a HE or large, complex organisations. - Experience of promoting and providing excellence in areas of administration and taking a continuous improvement approach to services. - Excellent interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills to be able to develop strong working relationships, influence and negotiation skills. - Ability to organise and prioritise a varied and demanding workload. - Ability to successfully lead and motivate teams and individual members of staff.
