Bournemouth University’s vision is worldwide recognition as a leading university for inspiring learning, advancing knowledge, and enriching society through the fusion of education, research and practice. Our highly skilled and creative workforce is comprised of individuals drawn from a broad cross section of the globe, who reflect a variety of backgrounds, talents, perspectives, and experiences that help to build our global learning community.

The Faculty of Science and Technology seeks to appoint an enthusiastic, talented and broadly trained Demonstrator to primarily support the Department of Life and Environmental Sciences in education, research and professional practice.

The post will support teaching and research in the department, including demonstrating for a range of courses including BSc Biomedical Sciences, BSc Medical Science and undergraduate courses in Forensics. The successful candidate will be educated to degree level in a relevant science subject and will preferably have experience of working within a university. A positive and engaging approach with students, a willingness to learn, and knowledge of appropriate health and safety issues and procedures, are also key.

A demonstrator is required to support an extensive range of practical-based teaching linked with our undergraduate courses. Practical knowledge and demonstration of state-of-the-art technology for biomedical and biological analysis will require a dedicated and knowledgeable individual, with expertise across diverse disciplines such as genetics, immunology, haematology, pharmacology, toxicology, stem cell science, cell culture and pathology. Knowledge of the legal aspects of working with human tissues, processing clinical data and preparing clinical type reports would also be advantageous.

Bournemouth University is an equal opportunities employer. We hold an institutional bronze Athena Swan award for our work supporting gender equality in STEM subjects and the department of Life and Environmental Sciences is in the process of applying for a departmental award. Bournemouth University also holds Disability Two Ticks status and work closely with DisabledGo as well as having signed the Mindful Employer charter and Time to Change Employer pledge.

This appointment is part of a strategic investment in the research and teaching of biomedical and medical sciences at Bournemouth University.

For further information or the opportunity for an informal visit, please contact Dr Emilie Hardouin [email protected] or Dr Kathy Hodder [email protected] by email.

BU values and is committed to an inclusive working environment. We seek a diverse community through attracting, developing, and retaining staff from different backgrounds to contribute to inspirational learning, advancing knowledge and enriching society. To support and enable our staff to achieve a balance between work and their personal lives, we will also consider proposals for flexible working or job share arrangements.
