Job description
This is a high profile, demanding and fast-paced role; You will be given a large degree of ownership for your responsibility areas, which can mean that you are responsible for a number of visits or events at any one time. You will be working closely with Ministers and the Home Office Executive Committee and provide them with the best quality service. The team is a flexible resource and the post-holder will need be ready to support colleagues during lively periods as responsibilities can move around to reflect Government priorities. You will need to be both resilient and demonstrate the ability to manage a full workload, prioritising when necessary.
You will need to be resourceful and able to think on your feet; managing risks, weighing up the options and make recommendations to senior officials and Ministers in order to deliver a high standard, sometimes at short notice with limited resources. You'll also need to be familiar with the domestic UK political landscape and the Home Secretary’s priorities in order to ensure visit programs support objectives of HMG.
The post holder must be willing to regularly travel within the UK to recce and to deliver visits and events, as well as staying overnight when required. There may be a requirement to travel internationally occasionally, according to business need. There may be a need for some early starts and late finishes, according to the requirements of specific visits and events.
A retention allowance of £2,300 per annum is payable for this role.

Hybrid working
The Home Office operates hybrid working, which enables employees to work partly in their workplace(s) and partly at home. However, given the nature of the role and the need to work closely with Ministers, the ability for hybrid working will depend on business need. Person specification
Reporting to the Head of Ministerial Visits & Events and Senior Ministerial Visits & Events Managers, the key responsibilities are:
- Plan, co-ordinate and lead on high quality strategic, media visits for Ministers, in order to deliver on the Home Secretary’s priorities and personal preferences whilst also achieving, where appropriate, good media coverage and HMG objectives.
- Project manage, plan and deliver large-scale Home Office Ministerial events including speeches, receptions and summits, working with communications and policy colleagues across the department, as well as external partners.
Note: The post-holder may be required to carry out other duties within the scope of the grade and within the limits of their skill, competence and training.
- Work as part of a team and individually to identify, recce and advance venues ahead of Ministerial visits, in the UK and internationally, when required.
- Work closely with Ministers, Special Advisors, Private Office, communications and policy colleagues from within the Home Office and across government to deliver visit and events.
- Proactively build peer-to-peer and senior relationships, both within the department and with external partners, to ensure the successful delivery of Ministerial visits and events and to help support future visit opportunities.
- Work as part of a team, as well as individually, to proactively maintain the team’s planning, evaluation and business tools and ensure these are up to date and accurate.
Essential criteria
- Excellent planning and organisational skills and proven track record to lead multiple projects and challenges, to deadlines and often under pressure.
- Experience of coordinating events and VIP visits.
- A can-do demeanour – someone who is proactive, willing to get stuck in and turn their hand to anything.
- Excellent drafting and oral communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship management skills, comfortable influencing at senior levels both internally and externally.
- Patience and a strong sense of team – we support each other, in a lively and highly-visible team.
- Ability to grasp complex or unfamiliar information quickly and communicate it with confidence.
- Experience of working at pace, either in a lively office or communications environment.
- Confident communicator – ability to brief and lead Ministers and senior colleagues, challenging those when necessary.
Desirable criteria
- Logistical/event management experience, with experience planning and delivering events.
- Experience working directly with Ministers and Private Office.
- Experience establishing relationships with a number of internal and external partners.
- Political awareness, understanding of wider government and the news agenda and propriety issues.

Selection process details
As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV, briefly outlining your career history, a Suitability Statement (Max Word Limit: 250) and provide two Behaviour examples (250 words max each) - Communicating and Influencing and Delivering at pace.

Please note your Suitability Statement should concisely explain (in no more than 250 words) your motivation for applying to this role, in particular your relevant experience organising events and VIP visits and evidencing how you meet the other essential criteria listed, in relation to the person specification outlined above.
The sift will be based on the Suitability Statement and Behaviour examples.

Candidates shortlisted will be invited to an interview which will be a blended approach of Strength-based questions (no preparation necessary) and Behaviour based questions.
If you are invited to interview, we may also ask you to take part in a role play exercise. Details will be provided in advance of the interview. This will be face to face, further details will be provided ahead of interview, however there will be a virtual option if needed.
Sift and interview dates:

For meaningful checks to be carried out, individuals need to have lived in the UK for a sufficient period of time to enable appropriate checks to be carried out and produce a result which provides the required level of assurance. You should normally have been resident in the United Kingdom for the last 3 years if the role requires CTC clearance, 5 years for SC clearance and 10 years for DV.
