WJ Groundwater is the leading construction dewatering and groundwater specialist in the UK with operations in Canada, the Middle East and Poland. Yard operations are an essential part of our business and are pivotal in enabling WJ Canada’s ability to execute projects on time and on budget.
Key role objectives:
The principal function of this position is to act as a Delivery Driver for construction dewatering equipment, system components and supplies. The position entails making pick-ups and deliveries as scheduled. In this role, the driver will represent WJ Groundwater in a safe, professional, courteous and punctual manner to our customers, suppliers, colleagues and the general public on the roads. This may include assisting the Yard Supervisor with scheduling and optimization of various tasks. You will ensure that equipment and materials coming and going from the yard will be tracked according to inventory management processes.
Key areas of responsibility
- Act as driver for company vehicles, ensuring that deliveries and pick ups are completed in an accurate and timely manner;
- Maintain a safe working environment while driving.
- Develop an understanding of systems & fittings in order to ensure that items collected and delivered are correct and consistent with documentation such as packing slips;
- Assist in scheduling and/or optimizing delivery/pick-up schedule;
- Assist in processing material requests if required, tracking movement of equipment, and preparing information for review by Yard Supervisor;
- Assist in organizing, maintaining, and recording inventory of fittings, assemblies and other equipment and spare parts at the yard;
- Collect packing slips, maintain records, and inspection sheets to submit to the Office Manager and Yard Supervisor, and complete paperwork as required;
- Some general labour tasks such as assembling, disassembling, cleaning, sorting, restocking fittings and various equipment;
- Load, unload, move material manually or by using material handling equipment;
- Handle, count, pack, and unpack as part of the material handling work;
- Ensure work areas are kept clean;
- Other responsibilities as dictated by changing business needs.
Qualifications & Experience
- Strong motivation, exceptional work ethic, professional demeanor, organizational skills and a commitment to achieving objectives;
- Proven record of courteous and defensive driving, an excellent driving record and a valid class G driver’s license in good standing, A copy of your current driver’s abstract is required upon hire;
- Experience driving heavy vehicles (i.e. 5 tonne trucks) is considered an asset;
- Experience in warehousing, transportation, or other related industry is beneficial;
- Working collaboratively and effectively with other colleagues;
- Proficiency in Excel and Microsoft Outlook is considered an asset;
- Experience with various types of plumbing/piping/process and construction equipment is considered an asset;
- Ability to operate a skid steer, forklift and other material handling equipment is considered an asset.
