Job description

The role:

We are looking for a friendly & helpful area collections driver's assistant. If you have had customer focussed experience, whether in paid or voluntary roles and have a friendly and positive outlook then we are looking for you to assist our teams in making the shop as successful as it can be.

As an area collections driver's assistant you will be responsible for the collection and delivery of goods to private houses as well as commercial premises. You will be required to assess the donated goods for quality and assist in the shop when not required to drive. This role will involve an extensive amount of manual handling

General duties:

  • Always give exceptional standards of customer service
  • To help deliver and collect goods from private houses and shops as directed
  • Help the driver in planning the most efficient route for each delivery/collection - having a good sound knowledge of the local area would be advantageous
  • Arranging appointments with customers and ensuring these are adhered to. To keep up to date contact information.
  • To assist the driver with daily vehicle checks; reporting any concerns/defects
  • Undertaking other duties, as required, in the store as directed by the manager, which may include serving customers in the shop and helping out with general duties
  • Unload deliveries and sort donations, keeping saleable items and preparing them for sale.
  • Achieve and maintain company standards of housekeeping, organisation and cleanliness throughout the shop/delivery premises
  • Maintain a positive and supportive working relationship with all of our volunteers - promote a happy working environment to increase efficiency and job satisfaction. To ensure their safety when assisting you in your role
  • Comply with all Health and Safety regulations as per the Company Health and Safety policy. To wear the correct PPE and safety footwear at all times

The ideal candidate will have:

  • A passion for charity retailing
  • Excellent customer service skills
  • A full and current driving licence
  • Manual handling experience (not essential)
  • Knowledge of the legislation regarding furniture and household goods (not essential)
  • Knowledge of the local area
  • Commitment to the ethos and values of The Salvation Army Trading Company
