What We’re Looking For In A General Manager
We’re in the hospitality industry first and foremost, so we only recruit naturally hospitable people – those with a big heart and big smile. As our General Manager, you’ll need to exemplify that warm and inclusive spirit, as you care, support and develop our team. Leadership can be challenging, we are growing an exciting restaurant brand and have high expectations. But it also should be fun, and we expect you to be playful too.
To star in this role, as our General Manager, you’ll have need to be process-oriented and have an eye for detail as you’ll have overall responsibility for day-to-day operations – including compliance, culture and creating a memorable guest dining experience. You’ll also have a commercial mind and through effective rota planning, budget management and stock control, you’ll have the ability to achieve our KPI’s, support the growth of the restaurant, as we build the Chuku’s brand together. As a leader, you’ll exemplify the Chuku’s standard and be able to train a team to meet them too. You’ll also be a great communicator – willing and able to share your knowledge.
We love to give people opportunities to learn and grow (our founders are always learning!), so to become our General Manager you don’t need to have previous knowledge of Nigerian food or culture. We can teach you everything you need to know. A genuine care for others, love of hospitality and an ambitious desire to learn, we can’t teach though – those are essential qualities you need to bring with you. Oh, and don’t forget that big smile!
Who Is Chuku’s
Chuku’s is the world’s first Nigerian tapas restaurant. Our award-winning restaurant serves up an immersive cultural dining experience which is about more than just food. When guests step through our doors, we say “goodbye London” and “Welcome to Lagos”.
Our hospitality philosophy is underpinned by Nigerian cultural values of warmth, openness and community. For, we encourage loud chatter and bubbly conversation. That’s why all our Nigerian dishes are made for sharing – tapas-style. With our authentic flavours and innovative twists on traditional dishes, our food leaves guests’ tastebuds tingling. Whilst our vibrant atmosphere has guests bouncing to afrobeats as they dine against a backdrop of colourful West African art. There simply is no other restaurant in the world doing what we do.
Chuku’s started life as a pop-up 6 years ago. Founded by a brother-sister duo, Emeka and Ifeyinwa, they wanted to share the cuisine and culture of their heritage with people from all different backgrounds in the UK. And over the last 6 years they’ve achieved just that and more - growing an international fanbase whilst opening their first flagship restaurant in Seven Sisters, Tottenham.
Chuku’s is a hotspot which the local community is proud of but also attracts guests from all over London and beyond. We’re proud of the communities that we serve, with our first community group being our talented team – the Chuku’s family. Now, we are growing that family, as our restaurant grows in popularity. If you’d like to join us, apply below.
