Job description
This is an opportunity to join a passionate and innovative company as a Delivery Driver. Since the original St. JOHN restaurant opened in Smithfield in 1994, the now famous Fergus Henderson and Trevor Gulliver (Founding Directors) have grown their unique and eclectic group of restaurants to include three restaurants and three retail bakeries, as well as St. John Wines.
We are looking for an experienced delivery driver, to join our team. Our drivers are responsible for the efficient distribution of St JOHN Bakery products to our customers, ensuring all are received in prime condition and in a timely manner. On shift you will be the face of St JOHN Bakery ensuring that our high levels of customer service and on time delivery capabilities are met and exceeded.
Key Responsibilities:
- Follow set scheduled route accurately without deviation for deliveries and communicate any traffic issues/hold ups to team or to customers if there have been issues or changes to the estimated time of arrival, route, or schedule.
- Act as a public face for St JOHN, communicating with customers, clients, and the general public; ensuring I act professionally and responsibly without bringing the St JOHN name into disrepute.
- Inspect delivery vehicle daily, check for any problems (low tire pressure, oil, fuel, tire wear, dents, or scratches etc) and report any abnormalities to line manager.
- Refuel or recharge vehicle as needed, following companies’ procedures.
- Responsible For reporting all accidents and vehicle issues encountered whilst enroute to line manager.
- Load and organise products for delivery from the bakery into vehicle according to company specifications and delivery route.
- Ensure all products match the delivery invoice, and any discrepancies are accurately recorded and communicated to line manager.
- Ensure that all food quality and temperature control procedures and checks are in place for chilled goods during delivery to our customers and recorded accurately on the Vehicle Hygiene Control Sheet.
- Ensure that all goods are handled with care and respect, and wastage is always minimised.
Requirements for success:
- Proficient driver with a full clean valid driving license for the UK.
- Previous retail or commercial driving experience is desirable.
- An understanding of Food Safety and Health & Safety at Work
- Physically fit and strong, able to lift goods and packages in and out of vehicles.
- A professional and friendly disposition, with an excellent understanding of customer service.
- Excellent planning and organising skills to manage workloads and prioritise requests.
- A calm professional manner demonstrates enthusiasm and is a team worker.
- Good English Language communication skills (both written & verbal) are required for this role.
- The ability to be flexible over working hours, for example very night shifts are required for this role.

- Full time - 40 hours -Night shift - Salary £11.50 - £12.00 per hour.
