DECANT ASSISTANT – MUSEUM DECANT
Working Hours: 08:30 -16:30 (Monday to Friday)
Reporting to: Head of Technical Team
Duration: Fixed-term contract – ending May 2024
Location: Near Olympia and/ or Stratford, London

The Technical team is an extremely busy group, running Gallery and Museum installations and large projects such as Archive and Collection moves, Museum Decants and complex object handling projects.
We are currently recruiting for up to four Decant Assistants on fixed term contracts to assist us in preparing and moving a major National Museum collection. Working within large Museum stores in West and East London, you will be assisting in the practical logistics of preparing and moving Museum Collections, liaising directly with client staff and Constantine Tech teams.
Roles and responsibilities
- Assist the Head of Technical team and the Constantine Technical Managers in the delivery of a major Museum collection decant project.
- Work alongside Constantine Technicians to consolidate packed material in stores and move them through the building ready for loading onto trucks.
- Operate a variety of manual handling equipment including pallet trucks, dollies and skates, trollies.
- Assist keeping workplaces clean and tidy, clearing rubbish to skips.
- Undertake safe manual handling.
- Comply with all Health & Safety requirements of the work, including wearing required PPE and Constantine workwear.
- At all times fulfil the company aim of providing excellent service to our clients and colleagues alike.
- Work on site within the client’s premises observing all local site rules and with respect to the client’s property.
- Any other duties as required by the Head of Technical or Technical Managers.
Person Specification
- Physically fit
- Able to work with due care and attention to items being handled
- Awareness of the health & safety issues around Manual handling
- Attention to detail and accuracy in all work.
- Awareness of an area such as Art, Craft or Design, or similar activity.
- Clean and tidy appearance.
- Outgoing, friendly and helpful attitude, with an ability to build relationships, and work flexibly and independently, and as part of a team.
