Position Purpose
The Associate Dean for Health Professions Education (ADHPE) will provide leadership and administrative oversight of a portfolio of Health Professions degree and non-degree granting programs at the Geisel School of Medicine, including education program development, implementation, curricular oversight, and innovation.
The ADHPE will oversee diversification, expansion, and enhancement of health professions educational offerings, guiding the development of new programs that align with the mission and strengths of Geisel. This position, in collaboration with the relevant curriculum committees and course directors, will also lead efforts to continually measure and improve the quality and effectiveness of the various program curricula. This position will ensure that curricular offerings align with evolving student and employer interest and market demand, utilizing data and analysis to make informed decisions. Additionally, this position is responsible for ensuring that all programs maintain compliance with applicable accrediting body standards. This position is responsible for tracking national trends and evolving accreditation standards for health professions education programs and in working with the participating faculty and education program leadership in facilitating relevant curricular innovation.
The ADHPE works closely with the respective education program leadership, curriculum assistant deans, course directors, and Geisel’s curriculum committees.
This role will be a 0.5 – 0.75 FTE position. A key expectation of the incumbent in the ADHPE is that they will meaningfully participate in teaching within Geisel’s health professions degree programs, leading 1-2 courses each academic year for additional FTE. Specific teaching efforts will be tailored to the expertise of the candidate.

PhD or equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Qualifications - Skills, Knowledge and Abilities
- DrPH, EdD, or PhD or equivalent education leadership experience
- 5-10 years’ experience in leading institutional efforts in new education program and curricular development and management
- Demonstrated experience providing oversight with accreditation processes in a higher education setting
- Demonstrated record of excellence and knowledge of curriculum development and innovation
- Demonstrated understanding of higher education administration with a proven knowledge of budget management and building effective relationships
- Commitment to keeping informed of emerging trends and market requirements for health professions education programs
- Commitment to support, contribute to and strengthen a vibrant, culturally diverse, and inclusive learning community of students, faculty, and fellow professionals.
- Demonstrated ability to lead programmatic efforts in a highly matrixed environment
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to plan and prioritize work independently
- High degree of initiative, tact, and diplomacy
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for effective interaction with diverse groups and individuals

Key Accountabilities
Description
Leadership and Oversight
- Provides administrative leadership and strategic oversight of the Health Professions Education programs at Geisel.
- Provides oversight over the Health Professions Education (HPE) teams leading the curriculum development, course delivery, and program evaluation, including the development of new programs in response to emerging trends and market demand.
- Works collaboratively with the leadership of each of Geisel’s Health Professions Education programs (i.e., MPH, QBS Masters, etc.) and the associated curricular and accreditation leaders to ensure that effective learning environments are created to best facilitate student achievement of the program objectives.
- Works closely with the leadership and finance team to develop and monitor HPE program performance, enrollment trends and operating budgets.
- Participates in the recruitment and engagement of faculty who will deliver high-quality teaching, advocating for resources needed for the successful delivery of Geisel’s HPE programs.
- Consults with appropriate assistant deans and course directors, to ensure timely and constructive feedback on various aspects of HPE program offerings, curricular changes, and course delivery.
- Facilitates coordination across the health professions programs to ensure alignment and integration of program offerings where appropriate.

Innovation and Program Development
- Identifies opportunities to enhance and expand educational offerings that are aligned with the mission and strengths of Geisel, developing strategies for bringing these initiatives to fruition and ensuring the successful launch of new offerings.
- Works with HPE program leadership to champion and facilitate development of curricular modifications and innovations and regularly evaluates practices, recommending changes as needed.
- Works with HPE program leadership to guide program improvement in response to faculty and student input, student outcomes, accrediting body standards, program evaluations, and external market analyses.
- Works with HPE program leadership to incorporate new foci into health professions programs that enhance the attractiveness of the programs to new applicants and the utility of the programs to its graduates.
