Job description
Aston University values its dual intensive focus on both research and teaching, reflected in being The Guardian University of the Year as well as THE’s Outstanding Entrepreneurial University in 2020.
Aston Law School is an independent school within the University’s College of Business and Social Sciences. We are committed to being distinctive: producing excellent, relevant and impactful research as well as ‘future ready’ graduates. We combine academic depth and practical insight from within a vibrant and collegiate community of 35 legal scholars, approximately half of whom are REF research active and two of whom have worked with the Law Commission. Our School also has a depth of practitioner experience and includes two members of the judiciary. Having restructured our undergraduate offering into a distinctive programme of applied knowledge and skills, we have plans to develop significantly our postgraduate and executive education, and distinctive international offerings.
Our plans for the future, together with our recent growth have led us to create an Associate Dean role, to work with the Dean of the School and our senior leadership team, to provide strategic and supportive leadership with a central focus on the inspired operation and management of the School.
The post holder will hold a substantive academic post at professorial or reader level and will undertake duties related to this appointed office for three years. The management and leadership responsibilities associated with this important appointed office role are expected to take precedence over the post holder’s academic teaching and research, likely taking up around 80% of their working time.
If you are interested in making a distinctive contribution to Aston Law School, either apply or make contact with Jonathan Fortnam, Dean of the Law School for an initial discussion ([email protected]).
