If so, an opportunity has arisen for a Packaging Technologist to join us at Defence Equipment & Support (DE&S).
This role offers you a unique opportunity to advise on the requirements for packaging to ensure that equipment (non-munitions) is packaged to withstand handling and transportation, in addition to both short and long term storage, in a full range of benign to harsh environments. Our aim is to guarantee that when the end user opens the packaging, the equipment is in the same condition as it left the factory and is fit for purpose.

About the role
As part of a small team, you will work with Industry partners, supporting in developing better approaches to Defence Packaging, including making it more sustainable as part of the greening government agenda. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide support to Delivery Teams and Industry on all aspects of Defence Packaging and in particular Military Level Packaging
- Provide support on sustainability and the environment in relation to packaging and packaging materials
- Support the maintenance of MOD information sources
- Support the maintenance of Non-Munitions Defence Packaging and NATO Standards
- Support the maintenance of the Military Packager Approval Scheme to include documentation, company and Designer Certification and Audits
- Provide secretarial support to the PEAS (Packaging in Equipment and Acquisition Support) Forum
- Assist with maintenance and provision of Defence Packaging training
- Maintain regular contact with internal and external stakeholders, including Professional Bodies and other Packaging Trade Associations
Person specification
To be successful with your application, you'll need to show that you meet the following essential criteria:
- You will hold a minimum of a Level 4 (e.g., HNC) qualification in a relevant technical, Engineering or Science fields, or will demonstrate the equivalent experience in packaging technology/engineering
- You will have some experience supporting the delivery of successful packaging outcomes
- You will have some experience of working with documentation in a technical environment
In addition to the responsibilities above, the following technical competences and behaviours will be assessed at interview:
