DBA Technical Specialist - The Finance Data & Analytics Office

Annual base salary: £66,861 - £74,290 + exceptional

Working Pattern: Our work style is hybrid, which involves spending at least two days per week currently, or 40% of our time, at our Gloucester or Bristol office.
This is a specialist technical role responsible in supporting the infrastructure and technology needed for the Finance Datamart (FDM) to function effectively. They will support cross-disciplinary teams and act as a link between the business and IT to ensure the necessary enhancements/project get delivered. They will maintain the Oracle security of the users to ensure that the appropriate access is granted.
As part of your role, you’ll
  • Assess database performance across the Oracle Cloud platform, making recommendations to the application teams to drive performance and ultimate value of the Oracle offering
  • Create standards processes for application teams when onboarding to the Oracle Cloud platform, including database structure, client strategy and minimum requirements
  • Assess new requests for deviations to standard database builds such as database parameters to ensure they are current and follow standard processes
  • Maintain performance metrics or standards to enable the platform owner to assess performance, contributing to the overall business case
  • Support the service management team in response to incidents, problems or alerting to find root cause of any issues to restore service and prevent future issues
  • Being an advocate of Oracle Database technology and inspiring change and improvement of features especially for 12c onwards
  • Support development of FDAO Solutions and critical BAU activities
  • Follow all relevant governance practices and operational standards to ensure the secure delivery of services
  • Identify shortcomings in existing processes, systems, and procedures, then use established methodology to deliver outcomes and/or provide support services
  • Develop relationships with business partners based on a track record of delivering solutions that fulfil requirements

Key skills and experience
  • Professional experienced in administering large (10Tb+) Oracle Databases, preferably 11g, 12c and 19c
  • Strong Oracle PL/SQL and UNIX (AIX) coding skills
  • Knowledge or experience with Oracle Multitenant (CDB/PDB)
  • Experience of assessing database performance and providing recommendations to fix or optimise
  • Database Security, maintaining users and privileges
  • Deep understanding of data warehouse methodology and principles of Dimensional Modelling
  • Experience as a development DBA, working closely with developers on database-related tasks and a good understanding of the full development lifecycle
  • Knowledge of Oracle Cloud@Customer technology
Desirable skills and experience:
  • Interested in new technologies and database features which will enhance the existing oracle Data Warehouse
  • Sound knowledge of business intelligence technology
A large proportion of the team works from our Gloucester office however we do have colleagues within the Leeds hub and lots of colleagues in the wider FDAO teams based in other hubs across London, Halifax, Chester and Edinburgh so it is important that you are based a commutable distance from one of the hubs.
